Well, then good you have a great Prius to drive you safely and in economy back and forth! :) Maybe once he is over with school and gets his degree, things will change for both of you to more comfortable commutes. Who knows. Still, it sounds not straining and maybe in 5-10 years your new self-driving Prius will do the driving for you! :)

Fuel economy is a good 10mpg higher than what I get with the Gen3 on similar driving conditions, here on the other side of the atlantic pond. I'd say is really good. Headwind doesn't help as it is like as if you driving 90mph without it. And that is a really good fuel consumption for that equivalent speed.

Yes, there is the knee airbag. It is actually marked on the Gen3 with the "SRS Airbag" on the plastic cover. Take care you are not taping or blocking any part of it.

I filled up tonight. My typical routine I think will be to fill up on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. That should do it, given my commute and errand running on the weekends. By the way, I bought it 5 days ago and I have 923 miles on it already.

Just driving it...sorta conscious about driving economically, but more concerned about keeping pace with traffic. AC use. 20+ mph headwind for the trip home most days. All highway, 65-72 mph. Lots of cruise control use. A few hills. Floor-boarding it around farm trucks.

54.9 mpg for the last tank, hand calculated.

I think I'm in love with this car.

Hi Bob, Dan here. I'd love to be able to do that...I know I'd find the results interesting. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to happen, or at least the results wouldn't account properly for removing the wind/temperature variables.

My commute puts me in two different (but not opposite) situations. On my drive to work, I get no "push" from the wind, because the prevailing wind pattern is calm in the morning (sometimes a slight headwind). Mid-day the winds typically change direction and dramatically increase in speed, so on the way home I have a strong headwind. Also, it's not even summer yet and on most days there's a 30-40 degree temperature variation, so on the way home I use AC for all but the last few miles (I never use it on the way to work).

I feel like to get accurate results that better account for wind, temp, and elevation, I'd need to head towards work then immediately turn around, in order to minimize the effects of the other variables.

Honestly, I'm just enjoying the car, and I'm happy with the comfort, the mpg, and the tech....I kinda nerd out a bit occasionally behind the wheel.

You certainly have the right vehicle for that long commute. Pleas keep us posted on your has mileage.

Jim in NC reported a similar "buzz" on the left side of his dashboard (Four Model.) He said he's taking it to the dealer today. Be interesting to see if they find anything.

I'm still getting a steady 199 MPG. :ROFLMAO: :)

And that is how it should be.

We sold our 03 Prius to our housekeeper and I'm pretty sure that grin won't go away for a long time:
    • aftermarket USB/digital/bluetooth receiver
    • rear view mirror with GPS (backup camera failed years ago)
    • 1.0(1.2) kW inverter (A)
    • 2" receiver hitch (B)
    • Gen-2 module, rebuilt traction battery (2009)
    • Graham miniscanner
    • Garmin nuvi, portable GPS
    • maintenance manuals
    • spare fuses
    • spare inverter pump (will help install)
Soon enough, I should be able to rent a 2016 Prius and get all the metrics needed. However, I have enough for now.

    Bob Wilson

A and B are things someone at USA Toyota screwed up.

My daughter said I was going to get a ticket for driving too slow. I then pointed at the 74MPG and she said Oh! Also was showing her the lane assist and she thought the cop was going to arrest me for drunk driving. Love that 199 when it pops up.

Ninth fillup. I succeeded in making it to the station on a couple of nice round numbers. 4 months to the day I got the car and exactly 6,000 miles on the odometer. Put 11.1 gallons in the 11.3 gallon capacity tank to achieve those numbers.
    Lifetime numbers:
    MFD 67.12
    Calculated 64.11

6000mi/10000km in 4 months! Holy!!! In 2-3 years you need a new one! ;)
What average speed do you record for those trips? (I don't remember if the Gen4 reports average speed per trip).
64mpg - 3,7L/100km is an excellent fuel consumption! nice!

I will have to check on the average speed. I know that it is SLOW.

Overall I am please with my Prius after 1 month. I've owned VW TDIs (98 Jetta & 96 Passat), loved the torque and MPGs. This Prius exceeds them in every way other than torque.

Sorry about the size of the images they are cropped screen caps from the Android aCar app and were posted via the PC app.

    1 month summary
    summary.jpg

I don't record the car's indicated MPG because all that matters are the numbers at the pump.

    Each fill up.

I also have the "buzz" on the left side of my dashboard on my 4T. I would be very interested on what the dealer does or says.

Took it to a different dealer today. (Much more convenient there).

They fixed it! It was a loose front floor heater vent piece on the driver's side. No noise anymore!

Hope that's the same for you.

You mean under the dashboard or under the seat?

Under the dash, behind the brake pedal. At least that's what the service tech told me.

Thanks so much. I will check that today. I hate rattles, especially in a new vehicle. This is my fifth Prius and first one with a rattle, otherwise a great car.

I ran the figures on paper based on 2331 miles traveled so far. Based on gas price of 2.10- 2.05 per gallon. Cost to travel 2331 miles for us was $79.

My older eyes must be failing me. I can't find any air vents under the dash, or under the front seats. (There is some fragile looking wires and a sensor(?) of some sort beneath the seats. I better stop jamming my vacuum nozzle under there!)

And there's a plastic panel under the glove box... and mine is kinda of loose, but no rattles.

Trim pieces under passenger and driver side are loose. Could do with some duct tape.
The vibration type noise I hear sometimes is plastic buzzing against plastic , only on rougher road surfaces. Almost sounds like it's coming from the top of dash area. Incidentally the speaker covers don't feel secured either. Tap fingers over areas of concern and you may hear resonating.

Also, sunroof wind noise when closed from vent ( up) position sounds like sunroof is still open. Work around is to slide sunroof open and then close it .

No doubt it's the back height level of Moon roof. Need to loosen the torx screws and push the back part further up then tighten down. Ain't worth the hassle .

The air duct vent pipes I believe are white.

There are many areas that could be causing the resonating which is normally heard when engine is laboring or on rougher tarmac roads. Things that I've noticed and comes to mind...
    Speaker covers.
The black plastic covers over rain sensors and behind rear view mirror stuck on the windshield.
Loose trim under passenger and driver foot well areas. Looks like a reduced amount of clips were used in design.
Insulation of hood material, go tap gently on the center of hood and listen the area with hump. Makes a racket.
Windshield cowel. Basically any area when two horizontally parallel plastic trim pieces are joined together. Need to use felt when two plastic areas come to contact to avoid noise and resonating.

Plus there is also slight wind noise from the A pillar areas. No complaints here though as it sounds normal.

F-dawg, I can hear your frustration with that moon/sun roof. My Camry did the SAME thing... and after doing all those opening & closing so many times, it finally quit altogether. I sure don't miss having a moonroof on my Prius.

I don't have any white air ducts that I can see, under my seats. Just a bunch of wires.

And if Prius owners have to start "duct taping" the interiors of our new cars? That's pretty friggin' sad! Not even getting 90 mpg's is worth all that.

We never used the moon roof in our previous vehicles either. No need in the heat of the FL.
It just so happens the package wifey wanted came also with moonroof. Else waste of time since I'm concerned.

With duct tape I meant for method of eliminating the noises okay so perhaps use masking tape on area of concern to find out if the noise goes or not then take it from there. Back in the days I used to remove areas of concern from the vehicle completely . called it method of elimination. Lol
