Anyone got any ideas on the lead time between ordering and taking delivery of a Prius Excel in the UK? I ordered mine in March and I'm now being quoted end of June (was originally late May early June) 15 weeks seems like such a long time (I know, I know, patience is a virtue LOL)
They had earthquakes in Japan that affected production and parts suppliers, keep that in mind. I think that right there, the earthquakes, is why your timeframe has changed/may still change.
12-15 weeks sounds about right, unless you're lucky like me, my dealer had the foresight to pre-order some, in differing trims unregistered and had one in stock that suited me, an Excel in Silver. I ordered mine on 18th March and got it on the 25th (I could have picked it up on the 23rd, but I was working that day). I was torn between Silver and Hypersonic red, my preference was the red but him having a silver one in stock swayed it. It might be worth ringing round a few dealers to see if they have any stock. I know my local Rotherham dealer, Burrows Toyota, has two Business Edition trims on site, one in the showroom and one demonstrator, he may have some more at the main branch in Doncaster. If you want to order a specific trim and options then I'm afraid it's gonna be a factory job, 12-15 weeks.
You are lucky they gave you a date. So far my dealer here in Munich Germany hasn't been able to tell anything about the delivery of mine....
Good point about the earthquake Paradox, and thanks for the responses from the rest of you. My order is for an Excel in Black - no twiddly extras or special fit items. I'll just relax, the reason I was a bit nervous is that my dealership has had a complete change of staff since my last purchase 2yrs ago, and so far these guys have done anything but give me that warm and fuzzy feeling, especially during the bargaining and order process. I'll look on the bright side - it will still be here waaaaaaay before my Tesla Model 3 (2018/19 is my best guess on that one)
I ordered mid March & was originally quoted mid July. Later told that It would arrive in the UK on the 5th of May & would be ready for me by the 18th May, apparently they go through 3 different UK centres, before arriving at the dealer for final PDI. Huh! However, this was before all the earthquake shenanigans. How long does the boat take from Japan? It might be still on its way. Time for an update from the dealer. G...
Ordered March 21st - likely too late to have it already on a ship sailing towards Europe... PS: I called my dealer this morning (27.04) and he informed that they have received no notification whatsoever about any delay to deliveries. Either he was sandbagging, or any delays have been shifted to those markets that rely more on "stock sale" like the USA, rather than BTO markets like EU. Or really there are no delays at all. Moreover, if the fabs have idled a total of 2 weeks (1 for the supplier's steel plant accident and 1 for the earthquake) I see no reason why existing orders should be delayed any more than 2-3 weeks. Also in consideration that the Prius overall production is in full ramp-up mode, and therefore they might have not gone yet to full capacity on the line for this model yet. Nevertheless, he confirmed to me mid-July delivery "if all goes as usual" (i.e. no car like the one I want pops up for some reason in the EU allotment).
Well here's a curious update - I reached out to @ToyotaGB on Twitter to see if they could tell me what the lead times were like. In the end I gave them my personal info via a DM and they came back today to tell me it would be September !!!! That's nearly 7 months from placing the order to getting the car.
I know - it seems insane. I'm having my 2014 Gen3 serviced this weekend so I may just see if the dealer has anything new to add to the conversation. Who's Mr T? LOL ... or am I being really dumb (wouldn't be the first time)
Mr T is the usual shorthand for Toyota, do not know where it came from originally. Strange but true...
Is the delay in deliveries due to the earthquakes? I've heard that some suppliers' facilities were damaged.
It seems the standard "cover their a**es" delivery times. If that is the case it is quite successful and they have issues with fulfilling demand. Otherwise it can well be that delivery will be 1-2 months sooner.
Could be... Going to call their customer services tomorrow.. Although I guess if they are having issues they won't fess up to it.
