    Greetings, long time listener...

The front dirver's side tire on my 05 Prius is wearing in a strip not quite on center on the tire (I'll try to post a pic tonight). Its almost down to having no tread on it. I've just turned (if memory serves) 23K miles on the car, and tires are factory.

I had tires balanced and rotated at 10K and 20K miles, but thinking that dealership didn't actually balance the tire in question (same dealership that could not provide fix for the recall awhile back). So, question is, do you all think I got swindeled at the dealership, a bad tire, or something else going on?

    Thanks for the insight!!!

You could take it to a tire place and have them take care of you. I never do any of my tire stuff at the dealer, also you might want to take the opportunity to upgrade.

On the list of reccomended upgrades are:

    1) Goodyear Assurance comfortreads: for a smooth quiet ride
    2) Michelin Hydroedge: Michelin's premium tire
    3) Goodyear Tripletread: Goodyear's premium tire, a bit cheaper than Michelin's

    4) and my personal favorite - Toyo Proxies TPT(Total Performance Touring): Improved handling, better traction and low rolling resistance (same as Michelin Energy for half the price)

Have the dealer check the alignment. I got the first alignment for free because of unusual tire wear. I also agree with benighted and used the unusual tire wear as an excuse to replace the originals with Goodyear Triple Treads. Since the alignment the TTs have typical wear patterns.

    Cool. I'll do both.

Hoping to get 40K out of the tires, but after reading about the use of better tires, I may indeed use the excuse :) .

    Thanks for the input!
