Has PolyAlpha + AC oil been tested in Prii

    I have most of a QT of a synythetic AC oil sold in Austraila and imported to the US as PolyAlpha + (plus) brand it is marketed and works well as universal refridgerant oil with R12, Freeze12, R134A and its competing variants and color is light red or pink and is tested to be scavanged (carried good) by all the refridgeants used commonly up to this point....Will it damage or soften the electrical motor windngs in my Prius?? And is is dielectric (non conductive) safe spec? Am considering getting it tested at work with a meggar. As the FSM warns about this and states use only "ND-OIL 11". Looking for long term experience not opinions.

    You'll get an opinion based on experience. A poor sod I met put standard oil/refrigerant recharge kit into his honda civic hybrid. He thought that since it's belt driven, it's fine even though it said not for use in hybrid vehicles with electric compressors. He didn't notice the big yellow power cable going to the back half of the compressor for the electrical portion. Worked for a few days, now it doesn't work.

    Does it specifically say it's compatible with the Ester base ND-11 or fit for use in hybrid electric compressors. If not, don't use it.

    Get a megohm meter and see if it's at all conductive. If it's conductive, don't use it.

    You have 3 far more sensible solutions than posting on priuschat...
    1) Contact the manufacturer
    2) Buy some ND-11 oil
    3) Buy some $17 oil that says it's compatible.
