Where to get hybrid battery replaced?

    Good luck to you, Tidus. If your Prius is in good condition otherwise a new battery will hopefully keep your car on the road for many more years.

    If you can, be the squeaky wheel with Toyota. Many states have 10 year 150,000 mile warranties on Pri HV battreies. The posts here in Priuschat have some good lines of argument to use. When people buy a Prius, or any Toyota, they are buying quality and long term reliability. Not a vehicle that will require a $3,300 repair ten years later.

    And shop around. There is a hefty chunk of profit in that $3,300 quote. Another dealer, or maybe an independent mechanic can put in a new battery (with toyota warranty) for hundreds less.

    One of our local Toyota dealers, a very big name, charges $600 for the install of a new battery - that's 5 hours of work at $120 per hour. What I can't figure out is where does the 5 HOURS come from?

    The new core requires a bit of effort to move the control section over as a new battery is not just a drop-in affair. That time also includes comprehensive diagnostics, which SHOULD be more than just plugging in Techstream and checking codes. Realistically, a thorough job from start to finish should be 2-2.5 hrs for someone able to do it without reference to published data - maybe 3-3.5 hours for a newb referencing published data. Of course, they have to charge you for the complementary detailing and wash...

    So is a 100K common for these to tank? Mine is at 96K.

    It is a combination of several factors. Mileage, use, climate, etc.
    Driving too much or too little is hard on the packs. For example 100,000 per year or 1000 miles per year. Both hard on a battery.
    100 degree temps are just as hard on a battery as - 20 degrees temps
    Driving it every day for 18 hours is just as hard on a battery as not driving it for months.
    So 100k failure is not that common, except when the car is subjected to conditions which would be conducive to a 100K mile failure.
