New Tires for 2012 Plug In?

I just got Michelin Premier A/S for mine... after a 5000 mile road trip, I love them. I did see a noticeable-but-not-insane decrease in MPG, but I feel it was worth it. I like a quiet, smooth, confident (traction-y) ride. The car is already crazy efficient. I can concede a little in that area...

 

some have purchased michelin energy saver a/s.

 

As I would have if they were readily available, but my normal sources couldn't produce them, so I moved on.

Yes, it was mildly displeasing. However, living in Minnesota, it can be 70 one day and snowing the next (recently happened), so I'm ok with having a tire that can handle both beautifully. But my MPGeekiness is being taunted, knowing I could be getting even better mileage. But, when most of my friends drive trucks, I still realize I'm doing pretty darn well. in fact, I probably won't burn any gas at all today. A run to the bus stop, then to get a pizza after work, then home... should be within my electric range. I love this car... hehehe!

 

same here, 3 partial charges, 25 miles.

 

A negative suggestion: I got "Pirelli 4P All Seasons+", and my mileage dropped by 15%, despite their high rating for LRR on Consumer Reports. Other PriusChat members have seen similar numbers for this particular tire.

 

Michelin Energy Savers A/S and yes they were super hard to get but it seems most Costcos have them around the Southern California area now and also in Austin and Denver areas.

 

I'll be getting the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422+ in a few thousand miles (I'm almost at 55k as well). I just got them for my C a few months ago and they seem pretty decent, and quite a bit cheaper than the Michelin Energy Savers A/S.

 

Bisco, what's your current take on good tires for a gen 1 Plug-In? Mine are shot.

 

i got the energy savers the summer of 2017. love them. very quiet and smooth, with no hit to mpg or ev range. not cheap though.
but some complain that they get noisier after 20k, and some say they aren't that great in wet weather.

i suppose it depends on how you drive. that's why there are so many tire threads here. everyone seems to have a different take.
certain continental models get good reviews here, and a few others.

 

Thanks Bisco. I need a combo of good traction, comfort, and quiet. I think I'm leaning towards Michelins, Continental or Bridgestone touring tires, but expect a bit of a hit on mpg.

 

yes, bridgestone seems to have some good ones as well. mpg will never make up for extra cost, i just love the quiet, it's noticeable to me.
i hope they don't get noisy, but i won't know for a few years.

 

Has anyone just gone back to toyota for their but 3 get 4th free deal and get whatever they're offering? They were good enough for the car when new .....

 

really? i didn't like mine. good mpg's, but very noisy. (not sure we all got the same tires) i doubt the dealer price is very good, can you find them on tire rack?

 

Mine are the EP420's & while they're not great, most others loose MPG. My driving is almost 100% in Seattle, so rarely on the open road and only need to worry about a little rain

I have the Ecopia on my PiP and I'm really liking them. I got them through America's tire when they were having one of their weekend deals. They have been good in hot central California through one summer (temperature 105+ during the summer) and I do city as well as country and freeway driving. They are pretty quiet and no hit to mpg as far as I can see.
