Hard to see how it's been 11 years since we first picked up our 2005 from the dealer lot, since we started with the car that has taken us all over the eastern half of the country and found us a ton of lasting friendships over 135500 miles. We bought it because we expected to do a lot of driving to visit family 1400 miles away. We got a lot more than we expected. But it has been every moment of 11 years! Wow. We are no longer the fresh faced young kids we once were. In fact, we are now parents of 2 under 4 with little to no free time and real jobs and the harshness on the body that comes with my chosen profession. And given all this, I decided that I'd be satisfied with 135k miles as the original owner of my 05 black Prius and make the conversion to an 06 HiHy Limited AWD. We got an 07 for DH last year and love it so much that we just went and got a second one. While it's been ages since I have been any kind of regular visitor around here, this remains the end of an era for me. If there is any constant in life, it's change. Still a Toyota hybrid, but very different indeed. Well wishes to you all!
Hi Galaxee, Your posts and your DH's contributions were instrumental in establishing PriusChat as the premier Prius forum a decade ago. Thanks very much for encouraging DIY repair and providing sound techniques. My 2004 has logged 214K miles and is still my daily commute vehicle, while the 2006 HiHy 4WD-i has logged 72K miles. I'm thinking about replacing the HiHy camshaft drive belt in the next year or so since the car is 10-1/2 years old. If either of your HiHy have gotten to the point where DH had to do that work I would be very interested in hearing his/your suggestions along those lines. Best wishes to both of you as you nurture your young family, develop your careers, and cruise through life in your twin HiHy vehicles.
Thanks, all. Extra nod to who I presume is the sailor in the room, from one servicemember to another. Patrick, we have to dig up the service records for this one, but will document if it needs doing on mine. We have been so glad to be of help to PCers in those early years- thanks for stepping up as we have become occupied with other things. I'm not gone for good... but life is beautiful and crazy busy so I'm not really back either
Congrats on the new acquisition! We appreciate all the help you and DH gave to early members. All the best and hope to see you around in a decade once things settle down haha.
