New owners... how are you breaking in the car the right way? 1,000 miles of driving like a grandma isn't going to work, since I have a 60 mile commute each way to/from work... Here is what the owner's manual recommends... is 80-85mph considered "extremely high speeds"? I've been ranging from 40-80 just slowing down and speeding up just to alternate my speed... Sorry it's been over 5 years since I've broken in a car lol I'm a little rusty
Those rules are stupid. The time an owner floors their car is when they test drive it and when the car is new, to get a feel of the car. The prius is slow, so they should expect buyers to floor their cars often.
that is why i won't buy a cr with more than a couple miles on it. o/p, is it necessary to go 80? what is the speed limit?
I bought mine with 2 miles on it. I drive 125 miles round trip 5 days a week. I've gotten it up to 80mph. I also drive through a canyon with a downhill 8% grade So I have no choice i just do the best i can.
Hi and thanks for bringing this up! I have been so busy that I haven't thought about this part yet. I've only had it 4 days. I think I've gone a max of 73 on the freeway.
Here in Texas, specifically in West Texas on I-10 & I-20 and on the (go around) Austin Toll road, the speed limit is 85 MPH
We are not in the 1960s any longer. ICEs are of such high quality that there is really no need to "break in" the engine. Just drive it. If a regimented break in was needed Toyota would do it at the factory to control the inevitable cost of warranty repairs.
Thanks this makes me feel better about my daily Socal 101fwy drives. Ugh worse traffic in the country!!!
