I just learned that I need a new battery on my 2007 Prius. The dealer cost for a new one is $4000.00! Is it worth it to just do it, or should I condition the battery instead? My triangle with exclamation mark inside is lit up along with a circle with exclamation mark, engine icon, and some letters, I think VSC or something like that. Also, how far can I drive it once the warning lights go on? Thanks for your help and suggestions!
Best practice is new Toyota batt if you can swing it. Refurbs less reliable and you'll be back. Based on your miles, we will suggest techniques to negotiate with Toyota.
About 165,000 miles About 165,000 miles Thanks for the advise! How do you negotiate with the dealer for a better price? Tips? I've no experience doing it.
How did you learn this? Could be bad 12v unless Toyota has diagnosed and declared Hv Batt dead. Anyways you are over 150k mile warranty but not extremely so. We have heard less success lately but since you live in Prius heaven (CA) you are one-step ahead: HV Battery Goodwill Warranty Listing - Toyota Prius USA | PriusChat
If you have already brought the car to the dealer for diagnostics, just have them service manager request a goodwill warranty through Toyota HQ for you.
Also haggle the price down to 2070 (HV Battery) + labor (400-550) + tax. Also, if the price includes a new hybrid battery computer, decline this as they very rarely fail, just have them transfer all the parts they need from your old battery.
