*SCROLL DOWN TO BOTTOM OF THIS POST FOR LIST* I would like to get a thread stickied that details very good products that add aux functionality. There seem to be plenty of threads of people asking for what's good, "List of Hardware that Positively Works with the Prius" is a great thread but it would be more newbie friendly if the list was all in the first post. My motivation for this is i just bought my first car ever, prius 05(im not actually sure what trim level i have, i dont have 6 disc changer, but i do have HID and my rearview mirror seems to look like the electronic auto dimming one, but im not sure) and aux functionality is definitely high on my wishlist. I would personally like to have an aux jack so i could plug a cord into and then into my phone to play music, but it would also be nice to have more ports like usb to play music or charge if at all possible, but most importantly it has to look stock. I have looked through some older threads and have heard of the auxbox but im not particularly audio or car savvy, also many links from old threads were broken so i wasnt actually able to see some other products. I just saw this in a thread and this could possibly be exactly what i'd need, but i would like others opinion on it. Or any other product? **LIST** VAIS MML | $249.99 Video,Audio Information Solutions for Toyota and Lexus (iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android, USB, XM/Sirius SAT Radio, Video integration) USB input only, though can use storage device(usb drive) or phones Keeps steering wheel control functionality http://www.vaistech.com/manuals/Manual_MML.pdf installed in prius
I used this in my 2006 G2 Prius. Video,Audio Information Solutions for Toyota and Lexus (iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android, USB, XM/Sirius SAT Radio, Video integration) Wasn't the cheapest of options, but it's completely hidden and all controlled from the stock display. Works with phones and USB sticks. I have a 16gb stick in the glovebox with over 2200 songs on it. Works flawlessly. Installed about 2 years ago so can't remember what I paid for it, but it was worth it. This is a link to the video I made of mine when it was installed. Jason.
That is pretty sweet! I noticed that your radio has a disc/aux button, mine has the tape-disc button. i didnt realize that i could just buy a radio like yours to replace mine to get aux functionality, which will probably be what i end up doing. I'm currently looking through the audio threads to see how i might install the aux inside the armrest. If you could, i would like to see the inside of your armrest to see how the aux area looks, i know it's there but i don't have access to a prius with one to study it. My goal is to add as many oem features as my budget will allow
I'll try to get a pic tomorrow morning before I go to work. Might be a little hard to get a good pic of the inside of the arm rest, though I will try. The aux in, is just a 3.5mm audio socket mounted on the front of the cavity. That radio is stock in the itech version of the Prius. It has nav, and reverse camera stock too. I'm not sure if the two would be interchangeable. I assume not. Though I'm sure someone on this forum would know. Jason.
I believe that the mfd's only change from 2005 to 2006 was a higher resolution screen if you had reverse camera. Thanks for taking pictures when you get the chance, it'll help me greatly. I am curious what the jack looks like, i may have seen the one toyota uses in another thread.
Here are some pics. Best I could do. The plug is in the front of the armrest. Towards the front of the car, right next to the 12v accessory power socket. Jason.
i have the same toyota as yours but is japan import 61 reg but i have only lighter socket inside the arm set nothing else next to it ,how i can install aux jack in my car ,?i have all the gadget in my car even tv but not aux jack. thanks
im currently trying to install a newer stock radio that has the aux button, and a newer centerconsole that has the aux plug, im just waiting to get the wires that connect them
Here's one I've found but have not used nor purchased so no review or recommendation from me. It does require getting to the back of the OEM head unit to access the CD port. Plusses include: mid-range price, hidden installation (only wire is the microphone) and uses the Prius steering wheel controls (volume, CD track control is used for additional features like call pickup). I currently have a GROM USB3 unit but have been considering switching to the VAIS MML because of the GROM unit's bugginess... One concern I have is that looking through the PDF documentation VAIS provides for the MML unit, it sounds like if you want to divide your USB sticks into emulated "disks" (for use with the MFD's 6 disc changer disc selection UI), the only way to do that is by partitioning your USB stick into four partitions, one for each of disks 1 through 4, with disks 5 and 6 always remaining inaccessible. Is that actually how it works or am I misreading the documentation?
If you wanted to use the "disc" function, then yes, you would have to partition the USB stick. I didn't bother with that though. I just have the one 16gb USB stick with each album in a seperate folder. It works very well, but there is some searching sometimes to find a specific album. Jason.
