weight/slower - it's a double edged sword. Without a good amount of weight, one can't necessarily deliver ~700hp & foot lbs of torque to the road. Dodge Hellcat - similar in hp & torque to the model S, in part, has to start the ¼ mile in 2nd gear, because it doesn't have enough weight to hook up all that power. Thus, the model S beats the Hellcat in the ¼ mile. MS's AWD is a plus too. As for top speed - MS is computer limited to ~ 150mph. If it wasn't? Could The Tesla P85D Go 200+ MPH? - Gas 2 So much for needing a tranny .
Well it seems like more details are coming up now: Tesla Raffling Off Model 3 Launch Invites, Online Orders And Live Stream Begin March 31st At 8:30 PM There's one tidbit in there that's a bit unsettling: "As a current owner who has supported Tesla and our mission, your reservation will take priority and be placed ahead of non-owners." I would be fine with this, if it wasn't for the $7500 federal tax credit expiring likely sometime around first deliveries of the Model 3. It would really suck to miss out on the tax credit due to not already owning a significantly more expensive Model S/X. I'm still considering putting a deposit down (if refundable), but if I miss out on the federal tax credit I won't be getting the Model 3 (I'd rather wait for a good deal of a used Model S or see what other manufacturers come up with down the road).
Model 3 $1000 reservation deposit is refundable. Is the $1000 deposit refundable? | Tesla Motors What I see "down the road" from other mfgs seems to NOT include ANY form of DC fast charging to enable cross country travel. THAT is just one of the aces Tesla is playing. Superchargers. Already in place and growing.
...who knows who will be in the White House etc, but my guess is Congress will consider extending that
Which Congress are you talking about? The ones currently in office that refuse to do anything? I don't think they will be extended unless a revolution of sorts happens this November, but then again they did extend the solar panels tax credit so maybe there is a chance.
it's just a matter of what will they give the pubs to get it. with the budget the way it is, anything will pass if there's enough pork.
So who's actually putting down a preorder tomorrow? I will be, but I'm not sure how early to get to the store, nor which store to go to. I thought about going to the Buena Park store since it's the largest in Orange County, but perhaps it would be better to go to a smaller one to deal with less lines.
Tesla hopes there are long lines. I'd love to have a Model 3; but I'm not sure I can wait 2+ years to replace my current wheels.
I'm only putting a preorder down for the chance to get the full $7500 federal tax credit, along with the possibility of California extended HOV benefits to ZEVs for another 6 years. At this point I'm not sure if I'll be ready to buy my next vehicle so soon, but those two would definitely tip the scales. Depending on the actual pricing with options of the Model 3, I might just try to find a used Model S when I'm ready. But having the refundable option to buy a Model 3 seems like it's worth it
Wow, quite a few people lined up to reserve one at the Tesla stores. I hope GM is paying attention to this for the Bolt's release. And remember how Toyota said "nobody wants electric cars?" Tesla Model 3: Impressive Lines Forming At Tesla Stores Around The Globe
i think they said, 'no one is knocking on our door, asking us to make one'. i guess hill used the doorbell.
In Minnesota I was in line with about 300 people at 10am. A friend of mine driving by at about 2pm said there was still a line of 50. If this is happening in MN, I can't imagine how many are at stores in NY and CA.
I went to Buena Park in California for my reservation. I arrived at 6:30am, and there were already a little over 100 people in front of me in line. Luckily that stored opened at 9am, and by the time I got out around 9:50am the line in total was probably up to 500 people.
I placed my deposit this morning in Rocklin, Ca. Arrived at 3am and was about 40th in line. By 10am when the store opened the count was 451 !!!! Huge day for Tesla.
