2005 Garage Door Opener

    Hi all,
    I want to program the Homelink in my car to open the door but it says I need
    the hand held transmitter which I do not have. I got the car used and there wasn't one.
    However, I do have access to the handheld opener for the garage door.
    Any suggestions?

    Do you have the manual for your garage door opener, or can you download it off the Internet?

    On my model, a learn button is pressed on the motor housing, then the remote/homelink transmitter button is pressed so that the remote can be accepted/learned by the system.
    In that case, only the homelink button would be pressed.

    I think you have to use the hand held that matches Your garage door. I seem to recall that you have to erase whats stored in the Homelink, before you try to re-program it.

    where it says you need the handheld transmitter, they mean the one that came with the garage door. nothing comes with the car.
