Should I buy a 2010 Prius IV with 131000 miles?

Goldilocks choice: #2

#1 has too many miles for someone looking to do a lot of driving and simply a roll of the dice over your 2010 in reliability.
#3 highest price but doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" you're wanting. The miles/year aren't enough to justify choosing it either.

I equate the cooling ability of the solar roof as having your windows rolled down about an inch or so when parked but not having to worry about security or dust.

Out of those, I vote for option 2. You will drive and stay in your car a lot so getting a low mile car with desired features make sense. This car does look very clean, one owner, and maintained every 5k miles. I think this is a good car. Bring down the price though.

There is a similar one not too far away, 5k less miles and asking $2k less. At least you can use this one to negotiate the other one.

Respects, but maintenance, usage, year model and mileage are the most important things to consider.

Mechanically though, all year models 2010-2015 are identical with the exception of the early Model V, later called 5. 2010-2011 had a beefed up steering box and "rumor says" the suspension was slightly beefed up as well, both to accommodated the 17" wheel/tire pkg only...which also reduces mpg. In 2012 there were "minor" changes to appearance and interior. Essentially though, they are all the same car differing only by the trim pkg. Most would admit that the $3,000+ upgraded sound/nav system is not worth $3,000+...but that is subjective. Like two of us pointed out, NAV and BT are easy and cheap aftermarket items. You're an adult like most here and it is not mine or anyone else's business to tell you what to do, but I would suggest you consider the choices wisely. It is your money, your choice and your life.

As a qualifier for my "opinion", I am a lifetime Mechanic, drive a 2010 Prius II, own another 2015 Prius 4 w/NAV...and just a few other vehicles to boot.

frodoz737 | PriusChat pretty much sum's up my feelings also FWIW. Not a lifetime mechanic, but rather a lifetime machinist who also had to maintain/repair said machines during my tenure. Until I became disabled a few years ago I did all of the work/maintenance I could on vehicles over the many years that I have been driving also.

I do agree that the Bluetooth and nav is a very easy/quick add on that can be done inexpensively. And Clazzio makes some excellent seat covers. I also agree with other statements here on PC about the factory nav system being sub-par. I have both the factory nav AND a "Garmin Nuvi" GPS. I actually prefer the Garmin over the factory nav but use both of them depending on my mood, and destination. Also no matter how good your map updates are, you can still get lost with a nav system, especially if you are off the beaten path. I have found myself more than once facing a dead end when using a nav system. Road's change and are not updated. Sometimes road's just dead end even though they show to go through on the nav system's. Bottom line, always be aware of your routes and road conditions.

Keep looking around for the car YOU like. When you find it, you will know.

IMO, lower miles and newer year model is what you should get. But everyone has their own budget plus want's and desires.

 

You will be destroying whatever it is that you buy. I suggest destroying as little money as possible. I drive almost 30kmi/yr and will not give up my 2007 Touring (240kmi) until it is completely dead. It has proven to be both remarkably reliable AND unbelievably inexpensive to drive. But, like others have pointed out, it's your money, not mine...
