Gee - a brand new car with 'issues' . . . . go figure !! Then, bothering to read past the dramatic headline we find; we can see that the issue doesn't appear rampent ... as though the X designers suddenly went, "oh no! we forgot to test it in the rain!!" That said, the bigger "drama" has arisen around the falcon wing door's (fwd) overhead pinch point ... the fwd's overhead hinge. Parent's fearing youngsters will stick their little fingers in there at the moment of closing. Gee - like folks haven't dealt with smashed fingers (lack of caution - simply being aware) ever since the invention of the door. If I had a buck for everyone who carelessly wasn't watching out in a common sense fashion, I'd have retired long ago. But that's the nature of our culture now days.

Are power windows worth it? Early models didn't have window pressure sensors & many a child & adult got injured as the glass slid up to the impending calamity. Somehow we got past it - things got better. Probably there are both advantages & disadvantages. Notwithstanding this guy with the leak, fwd's working right would actually provide an umbrella-like affect from a downpour. Disadvantage? I can think of one thing - forget about rooftop storage; Not that I've ever needed to use one of these bad boys. If one had that much junk to schlep around, one would have to use a hitch type carrier or a mini trailer. .
I am sure that with the front storage and back storage, they don't think you need roof storage, which would also bring down your mileage.
i don't think the doors are worth it. they should have just designed it like any four door car. but the horse is out of the barn now, no point in whining. let's hope there aren't any serious issues and then can soon focus on the next ev, a car for all seasons.
On Tesla's web site, it says you only need a foot on each side to get in and out of the falcon doors. Great, now since the driver's door is a conventional door, how does the driver get out? Do they have to squeeze into the back seat to get out if the Tesla is wedged between two other SUVs? Sounds like German engineers came up with the idea.
I concur that the Model X FWDs are a huge issue for Tesla. It has resulted in the rather casual pace that MX is being delivered. I did see a MX at a Supercharger, and frankly don't see the big deal. Between the S and X, I'll take the S every time.
After driving both - I do notice one big difference. My better half says it best. Back in the mid1990's she said my 911 Porsche cab "rides like a go-cart". That's how she sums up the Model S too. The X? Not so much. That's one of several things that makes the MX a better fit for her ... that & sitting up higher ... easier to get in & out. And the Bio Hazard - over the top air filtration - etc etc. But she doesn't like the huge windshield that goes up beyond front passengers. Anyway - the (FWD's) falcon wing doors: There's a big difference between FWD's ARE a huge issue versus WERE a huge issue. Getting it/them into production was one thing, but Musk has said the doors are not a problem; Elon Musk just revealed the biggest problem with the Model X - Tech Insider By the end of the month, Tesla says there'll be about 1,000 MX's a month going out. The last call Tesla gave me was to say if we go for the 90kWh pack in stead of the 70kWh pack, we can expect delivery in 4 weeks. 4 week deliver would mean FWD's are no longer issues. We may just wait & see if we can find an early lease return - save several thousand. Yes, I'm sure the FWD's were hell to get up and running, but Musk tweeted just a couple weeks ago that the FWD's are not an issue (now). It's like Tesla fires .... never mind the low instance per million miles compared to gassers. There's drama to be had. We'll hear about battery fires for some time to come ... and we'll here about FWD's "huge issue" for some time to come - facts be damned. .
oh ye of little faith - surely you must realize that Elon Musk will always be able to calm the pitter-pat of your anxious heart. I gave you the summon feature for just such occasions as you might dread; Tesla - comes with the needed tools for when the cars next to you are driven by tools. .
i think the question is, why do you need falcon doors in back, and not in front. it really is a completely stupid idea, and a waste of money.
Hey wait a minute - weren't you the one worried about having to "squeeze" between the front seats? I took it for granted that meant you were on the portly side - 350lbs ? Using summon - you wouldn't have to squeeze. But if you're normal size - it's no problem to go between the 2 front seats when inconsiderates park inches away. Look how much room (from this picture) you actually have to "go" between the 2 front seats; That poor slob Musk is trying to give folks entrance/egress alternatives - and it looks like all he's getting for his cool door trouble is heartache There's a bit of irony with the fuss over the fancy doors. There's a bunch of other cool cars that have up swinging doors but I don't recall ever hearing the fuss pertaining to any of the following ones that had such goodies. Consider any of the following; BMW i8 Mercedes 300SLR & the SLS AMG. Lamborghini Countach, Murcielago, Aventador & Diablo Lykan Hypersport La Ferrari & the Enzo hypercar Koenigsegg Regera mega-car Pagani Huayra The DeLorean 3 or 4 McClaren's and others But the MX holds up to 7 people & you don't have to turn your back into a horseshoe to fiddle with baby seat because you can stand straight up while fiddling with it - even with cars parked too close. Now if I was going to whine about any of the over-the-top features - i'd be whining that the very comfortable middle row can't be laid perfectly flat for big items like drywall or plywood. What I'd likely do is order just 2 middle seats - then stick one of the 2 on Zeus fittings, so I could remove it in just a couple minutes. Then I'd have my room for plywood or drywall - you know - fir that once-per decade that I might actually need to haul oversize junk like that? .
Mercedes used gullwing doors on the original 300SL to clear the special frame. The rest, unless it's to do the same thing, do it for show.
Unless you are in the situation where someone has parked too closely on the left and right of you, I don't see how it is easier to get into the driver seat from the back than from the front. There have been a few times where someone has blocked me in on the drivers side and I've just got in from the passenger side.
