It's coming folks: Toyota's entry into the sub-compact CUV segment, the 2017 Toyota C-HR, coming March 2016. Strange naming for Toyota, but it was originally supposed to be a Scion, until Toyota killed the brand. And yes, it will come in a hybrid variant. In fact, the leaks so far have been about the hybrid. We don't know anything about the gas-only versions yet. Just a weird looking car, I don't like the top lip, not sure what you call that. Also, I'm guessing that the back door opens only after the front door opens, kind of like the Honda Element? Maybe back windows that don't open like the FJ cruiser?
^^^Look at top left of rear door, the handle is there. I think it looks awesome. A rugged looking and stylish hybrid. Of course would have to see specs and mpg first then test drive to make judgement but going by looks I like it a lot.
Maybe it looks better in person but I'll just say it isn't my style. I also am not a fan of the Juke.
That doesn't look like a juke....which looks like a stupid squatting frog. Lol. I think it kinda resembles a smaller Acura ZDX?? But yeah, in 2017 we can all see what we think I guess
Awesome. I love it. It's aggressive without looking brash (like the 2016 RX. That grille is HUGE!). The rear 3/4 has a bit of Juke but the good bits. The design accent that I love is the way the front fender flows towards the front doors. It definitely looks better than the more mundane HR-V but not outlandish like the Juke. I also like the wheel design. Bad points? I'm not liking the area where the rear handle is. It reminds me of those two-tone "custom" paint jobs (like the Scion tC RS9.0)
It still looks closer to a Juke to me, went and looked at the ZDX, which looks more like a car to me.
I think this looks very cool! I've basically already decided to get one. Does anyone have an idea what the powerplant will be? I've seen Toyota claiming it has the same 1,8l hybrid as in the new Prius, yet the power output has been rated at 122 HP. I wonder how that can be, since even my 3rd gen Prius has >130HP and I've understood that the 4th gen produces 150 HP. So why would the C-HR have only 122, if the ICE is 1,8l? I guess it could've a smaller electric motor, but why, the car probably weighs the same or more than a Prius. That'd mean worse performance.
The system power of the gen4 Prius is 121hp. The standard for rating hybrids has changed, so gen3 and gen4 numbers aren't comparable. There is a sticky thread in the gen4 forum about the measurement. The basics is that it is a combination of ICE and battery power. The MG/2 output is limited by what the battery and MG/1 can supply.
1.8 litre HSD and 1.2 litre turbos have been announced. I don't know if NA is getting a larger engine (like a 1.8 litre from the Corolla or a 2.0 litre non-turbo from the overseas Camry or Avensis). The Gen 4 is rated at 122hp.
From a Jalopnik user comment: “Woke” basically means “socially concious”, or “aware and conscientious”.
