    Hi my Prius die!!!!

Yesterday while i was driving home out of the blue,
I was in the city making a stop and sudenly everything in my odometer start blinking including gas level (gas was halfway), also big red triangle turns on and some other lights that i couldnt see because the car stop accelerate so i just maked to pull over and set the Parking then i turn off the car to try turn it on again and see if everything clear out but didnt turn on anymore:cry::cry::cry: couldnt even get it in neutral to move it...
i press START botton ones and screen turns on and even able to get into info system to check that my aux12v battery was ok
BUT when press the START botton twice with or without stop pedal all energy shut off, screen dies and odometer just try to blink quickly before die not even able to see if any other light turns on like the engine one or big triangle
AND WORSE part its that i can pull anything out of my Scanner becouse it needs to be in 2 STARTBOTTON pressed mode in order for my scanner to conect with my Prius:cry:(n)

Does anyone has a clue what could possible be wrong?
hybrid battery was a charm, not a problem.
Recently change inverter pump and working great.
12v battery just get it 2months ago so not a problem neither.
It just die out of the blue
this is my Prius 2005, 120,000 miles and really well take care:cry:...
i had to tow my care back home because dont even give me power to enchace neutral to park it properly:cry::cry:

since you recently changed your inverter pump, that probably is your problem. check and see if there's any movement in the inverter coolant reservoir....if no movement, then you have your answer.

Maybe it overheated? air in the system?

Unfortunately...or fortunately depending on how you want to look at it, The HSD system in a Prius is a synergy of a lot of systems. Many computer controlled.
So you get a lot of scenarios of YEARS of reliable service....then that one day when suddenly everything "dies".
The complication of most modern cars, means that often with a failure you get the binary...it's working...it's NOT working reality. Frustrating and scary...but part of the cost of the benefit of the efficiency most modern cars can offer.

Gone are the day's of the 70's and earlier, when the mechanical ONLY aspect of a vehicle meant that often you got warning of ensuing failure through hard starts, or rough operation.

But today without obtainable codes? Very hard to ascertain anything specific.

I would offer that replacement of the 12 volt battery, and/or replacement of the Inverter pump doesn't guarantee that the problem isn't manifesting from either of those systems. Things can be installed incorrectly and/or new parts can be faulty. Not saying that is the case, just saying you can't totally remove the possibility that the problems are still coming from those areas.

I think your choice here is to either try to obtain codes and diagnose yourself...OR simply let a dealership diagnose. But without codes? I wouldn't really venture a guess as to what might be wrong. It could be anything...from minor to major.

    Warranty Assistance with what?
Kind of have to ascertain what the problem IS before expecting or asking for warranty assistance.

Calling up Toyota as simply saying...My 11 year old Prius has failed...isn't going to result in much support.
With all due respect, If I'm Toyota my answer to that is simply going to be "Call us back when you've discovered what the problem is".

Thanks for the welcome, but i do think its a little late for warranties..

So my best shot is tow my car to dealership a see if they can figure out whats posibble wrong?

Since i hear the inverter working when let the car on with one startbotton press mode i thought it could be something simple like a relay or so..

Thanks for the quick help, i will check right now for movement in reservoir

Disconnect the negative battery cable to clear everything.
Reconnect the negative, and start the car (make READY).
Connect your reader and drive up and down your street, waiting for the errors to appear.; at least you will be super close to home, and can likely push the car back (unless home is on a steep incline).

Just disconect the battery but does the same thing and dont get on ready mode before die..

Just check the system and open the valve and air run free and some bubbles too, about movement i dont see any but shouldnt be the car on ready mode in order to pump works?
Anyway just clear the air from the system but cant get the car on Ready mode yet, and as i said in another post: i can hear the inverter make a little noise like working so i dont think my inverter is fry right?

Who changed the pump? Was it done under recall?

If you've disconnected the battery and the car still won't get into ready mode, it could be your 12v not charging and ran down. Best to get codes read

    Check all your fuses too

Sometimes Toyota gives out of warranty assistance (on battery) but before we go there let's understand the problem

The inverter coolant pump should be running at all times when the Prius is either IG-ON (where all dashboard warning lights are on) or READY.

What kind of "noise" are you hearing? The inverter is composed of several subsystems, and you cannot judge its functionality or lack thereof based upon noise.

Find and check the 15A AM2 fuse. If the inverter coolant pump motor has shorted out, the short will blow that fuse and the car will not operate.

No, the inverter pump also runs in IG-ON mode. In addition to the slight hum of the pump motor, you must be able to see some flow in the reservoir. The inverter itself will not make any noise.

It sounds like you did not bleed the system properly earlier, if you were recently able to get air bubbles out of bleeder valve. If you still do not see coolant flow in the reservoir in IG-ON mode, you still have not bled it properly. Getting that flow is critical.

You can disconnect the inverter coolant pump if you need to drive the car short distances, prior to getting the pump replaced.

How short, depends upon the ambient air temps in your locale. If you still have snow on the ground for example, you don't need that pump at all. If you are in a tropical zone then don't drive more than a very short distance - just a few miles.

I'm confused how you came about replacing this pump at 120,000 miles? There was a recall on the pump, you know that right? If you replace it again yourself, this would be "at least" the 4th pump in this car at 120,000 miles (assuming you've done recall). Is this car by any chance salvaged?

    Hello everyone,
I recently had the same issue with my Prius 2007, it presented the same symptoms described in the first post. I took it to a dealership but he didn't have much experience with Hybrid cars, he found that a cable that goes into the 12Volt battery wasn't working fine, they changed it and the car was running again, he said battery was still ok.
Then, the next day, after a full day drive it showed the same problems once again. That day we were not able to move it; but 4 days after, the car started and we were able to drive it home without showing lights or losing power, a short 10miles drive.

After reading this post, we checked the 15A AM2 fuse but found out it isn't blown; how can we be sure that the inverter coolant pump is not longer working?
