I was looking for details on running speaker wires on the front doors and it took me a while. On the numerous speaker install thread all of them don't go into much detail except for this one at the bottom of this post. I'm all about efficiency and using the most of my free time so this help a bunch! I will try to take a few during my install to add to this. The reason I need or want to do this is to use an amp for my door speakers. After upgrading my speakers, the the mid range really need more power(db's) due to the higher frequencies have. I'm adding a few more details that should help anyone needing to do this. It was actually quite easy with a the tube trick I found. First remove door panel. Locate 2 bolts that hold wire harness boot on the door. Remove with 10mm socket. Open the boot assembly up by removing black tape or heat shrink from section where wires exit. Once trimmed off, unclip the plastic from the metal piece. Now it's opened up. Take tube and gently run it through boot and wall of the car. Now run wires through tube. You many need some wire lube. Nice write up on the front door wires. I've done this myself and have pictures and always meant to write it up myself. But never got around to it. I re-wired the rear speakers as well which requires a completely different approach.
Sharing info really saves time. It's fun to explore sometimes but for me theses days I just don't have the time. iPhone ?
Old thread, but does anyone know if the 4th generation works similarly for running wires through the front door. I assumed there was a molex connector that would prevent this. There isn’t a molex connection on the 3rd generation?
I have. Seems like most are just using stock speaker wire and not going through the hassle. The wiring through the door looks similar to the 3rd gen, but perhaps there’s a molex on the 4th. You guys are lucky being able to run 6x9 speakers! 4th gen is a 6.5.
