I'm really surprised that sunroofs are not available on the touring models. I'm really interested in getting the touring model for the LED fog lights and better wheels, but no sunroof is a huge deal breaker. Does anyone know the reason why they don't allow them? Also, would it be possible to get a non-touring version with the wheels and LED fog lights as possible dealer add-ons?
It is said that weight is the reason. The sunroof is heavy. The 17" wheels are heavy. One or the other was preferred to meet the weight targets. Yup, it's only 60-100 lbs. It appears that is a lot.
I just traded my 2011 Prius with the solar/sunroof package for a Prius Four Touring without a sunroof! What was I thinking? As much as I loved the sunroof in my 2011 I must admit the comfort and drive of my new Prius Four Touring with the Premium Convenience Package is absolutely amazing. However, I do have really cool led fog lights! As I roamed the the dealership lot I realized I could not have my cake and eat it too with the Prius family. I'd sacrifice a few mpg's for a sunroof.
I had a sunroof in my previous car, I hardly ever used it though, I usually liked to pull it up once in a while to get a little air but it was definitely not a must have for me but different people have different needs.
congrats and welcome! when you have time, please give us a comparison of gen 3 and 4, in the 'what do new owners have to say about the gen 4' thread.
Don't let the dealer do the addon. Do it yourself. Dealer's only objective is to get it done, not to your expectation. I saw a thread here not too long ago about wanting blind spot monitor on his 2015. He was expecting OEM BSM and paid over 1K for it. The dealer installed an aftermarket BSM without telling him. If you want OEM LED foglights, wait til they hit the market and do it yourself. As for 17" rims and tires, you can always go aftermarket.
Weight is the main reason why it not available on the touring. Toyota can't claim their MPGs with both 17s & the sunroof. Look at the gen3.....sunroof was available only on the pkg 3 & 4. It was not available on the pkg 5 with the LED headlights & 17" wheels. iPhone ?
Gen 3 Dynamic Business Solar Roof trim is offered in Netherlands. It has solar roof and 17" rims. Can't find fuel economy information. If there's a 2016 Prius that has 17" rims and sunroof in the world, Netherlands probably has it.
No they are not getting a sun roof even though they have 5 (!) trim levels to choose from ! Unfortunately we are not getting one either . Austria can even have the sun roof although they get all the bells and whistles exept of course the 17" wheels ! They get the absolute same features we get, everything the new Prius has to offer, but for some strange reason we don't get it which is very, very annoying ! By the way,we got the 3. gen Prius with 17" wheels and solar sun roof too,but not until the refresh was presented.
I think the bigger questions is which country has the fully loaded Prius with tech package, HUD, sunroof, and fog lights. Forget the 17" rims as those can always be added on.
Japan. A Premium. (There's an A Premium Touring Selection but as you guessed, no moonroof option). The A Premium has genuine leather, power driver's seat, TSS-P, LED foglights etc etc. Moonroof is optional ¥108,000
But does it have a power passenger seat? I don't really want a sunroof myself but that would be part of a fully loaded package if you asked me.
So the touring has the "touring suspension" and 17" wheels, I assume the 17" wheels are part of the package, I wonder if the struts and springs are "better", I'd love a sunroof and don't need 17" wheels but want a better strut and spring package if available, also with the sunroof, no automatic wipers, not a deal killer.
