Featured 2016 Prius Super Bowl Commercial: "The Longest Chase" Prius4

    Cool, so all I have to do is rob a bank first. Then I'll have plenty of cash to "buy" a Prius with lol.

    Sarcasm aside, I liked the longest chase ad. They did a pretty good job at getting the Prius on people's minds, while also showcasing some of its benefits like when they quietly crept past the sleeping cops.

    I also liked that they poked fun at themselves, such as the the news anchor's disbelief that cops were chasing after a Prius. And the dispatcher jokingly brushing off the cop's comment that it was "fast". I actually respect them more for the self-deprecation.

    I was thrown off guard when I first saw it was expecting the "heck on wheels". But good commercial because it had a story line and left at least me waiting for the next one to see the conclusion.

    I"ve got to say that new one was much better. Prius commercials are normally remembered for how bad they are, but this one was actually good.

    I'm sure the hyundai commercials did better, but the kevin heart one was kind of creepy with this funny. The ryan world one showed a key safety device in an enetertaining way, probably better than the father driving his daughter to school.

    apparently the commercial worked. I had to go to the Toyota dealership this morning. A guy told me that he came to buy a red Prius this morning after seeing the commercial yesterday (and wanted to know how I got my red Prius)

    googling around the net, i'm not seeing any love for prius commercial. hyundai gets the most mention,audi and mini. and of course all the regular non car ads.

    when it comes to prius, the public gives a collective shrug. gas is $1.80 a gallon, as the prez mentioned.

    The Prius commercial is getting tons of love. In fact, a lot of people are saying it's the best commercial of the night.

    Actually I find that surprising since while I thought it was fine (and way better than that Heck on Wheels one), I didn't think it was awesome. I haven't seen most of the other superbowl commercials though, so maybe most of them just sucked.

    I have been surprised at the amount of negative posts I have seen about the commercial. Some people saw no humor in bank robbery, stealing a car and police chases, saying Toyota was glorifying criminal behavior. Whatever, I hope the people saying those things don't have cable and don't go to the movies because it is everywhere.

    As a fan of The Wire I immediately loved it.

    I'm going to go in a different direction and try NOT to over analyze this one.
    It was good.
    It was one of the better commercials in what I thought was a pretty weak showing for the commercials as a whole.

    It showed the strengths of the "new" Prius, and was humorous.

    By the way, I didn't like the very popular Audi- "Thanks For The Moon" commercial.

    Since I don't know what Audi's involvement if any was with the US Space Program, I kind of didn't like then co-opting the whole concept, plus probably more importantly, I think it's generally a very bad idea to put depressed non-communicative elderly, who may be suffering from Alzheimers behind the wheel of 205 mph sports cars, regardless of what memories the experience may stir.

    Also, advertising industry publications like this one think it's great:

    The Super Bowl 50 commercials for Buick, Mini and Toyota all carry whiffs of defensiveness: A guy is surprised that a cool convertible is a Buick, Randy Johnson wants you to know he really can fit inside a Mini, and the cops chasing robbers in a Prius warn dispatch that "this thing is actually pretty fast." But Toyota's take disarmingly it achieves its goal, countering negative suspicions instead of reinforcing them. "The Longest Chase" proceeds to play up product attribute after product attribute without a single hard sell. Great writing and acting make the full 90 seconds worth it. It's one of the most absorbing and entertaining ads in the game.

    And perhaps more importantly, if you check some of the car enthusiast forums, ones that don't necessarily like the Prius, a lot of the people think the ad is hilarious.

    But again, I myself think the ad is merely good.

    I thought the bank robber skit was clever, well filmed ..... and dishonest.
    I suppose that is what advertising is all about.

    Toyota needs to decide if their market is fuel efficient, clean environment, comfortable, and quality minded, ..........
    or performance, and high speed track tricks.

    Maybe it will work. I hope so.

    Ahhh... when doesn't advertising portray an extreme? The purpose is to demonstrate strengths. That's marketing.

    But hey, it's still better than buying abilities we'll never actually use. How many SUVs with heavy-duty suspension, high-ground clearance, and high-traction tires are used for nothing but commutes and driving around town?

    I think the whole idea, is that this next Gen Prius IS fuel efficient, clean, environmentally friendly, comfortable, quality..PLUS also a good performing vehicle.
    Why does Toyota need to decide "Or"?

    That's the very stereotype I think Toyota is trying to overcome. "Prius Possible" is highlighting the lack of compromise....it's no longer "Or".

    I didn't particularly like the ad, as I too felt it was making an absurd exaggeration (that the new Prius can be an effective getaway/chase car) a central premise instead of a punchline. It makes you wonder if non-Prius-familiar viewers understand that only the central premise is tongue-in-cheek*, and surrounding it are claims of varying validity to reality (and varying plausibility to the non-Prius-familiar public) being demonstrated here? Or do they perceive it all as tongue-in-cheek fiction to the point they won't be surprised if the commercial veered into a Dukes-of-Hazzard shark-jumping?

    (Perhaps had I progressed further with "The Wire" I might have better appreciated the mini-reunion/role-reprise.)

    While that is entirely true... a Prius is nothing more than cotton candy to a Police Interceptor. I'm not sure that you can overcome stereotype with hyperbole; what you end up building is a new stereotype of "disconnection with reality". I think there are better ways of demonstrating that the Prius is now a "normal" car with extraordinary fuel efficiency.
