kind of a newbie with filling it up, so any tips will be appreciated and sorry if this is a repetitive question. edit: I found the info, but can't delete the thread.
i never seem to get much more in after the 1st click. firtst car i've ever had that clicked correctly. my last car clicked and i could put 4 more gallons in.

I simply always set the auto handle at the lowest setting and stop at the first click. Even when I tried to top off I only could get about 3 tenths in, isn't worth it to me, but I accept others can do better.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(aaf709 @ May 11 2006, 12:31 AM) </div> I guess I'm the odd man out. If I stop at the first click, my fuel gauge is one or two bars below full. I fill to the first click, pull the nozzle out (to relieve any air pressure - never seen any though), then fill to around the distance on the last tank divided by the MFD MPG number. For example, 400 miles/45MPG means I should have used a little under 9 gallons (8.8888... for the anal-retentive). I stop at the first click after that. Never had an overflow. - Tom
I completely ignore the clicks. I fill till I see gas, or hear the sounds it makes when it is getting up into the filler pipe. If I stopped at the click my tank would never be over 3/4 full.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DocVijay @ May 10 2006, 11:31 PM) </div> Ditto that. Of course, that doesn't take long, with gas prices nowadays... I do notice that the Prius is more finicky than most when filling - once it clicks, it keeps clicking with every extra drop, I guess the car is trying to tell us something.... - Kevin
I stop at the first click. My understanding is that some people had problems with the tank being overexpanded then regurgitating gas after they pulled out the nozzle. I figure why chance it to get an extra 1/8 of a gallon in?
My wife and I put in 1 to 1.5 gallons after the first click. She filled up last night after driving 675 miles. We typically drive 600-700 miles on a tank of gas. That means we fill up less often than those that don't add fuel. To each their own. BTW she has caught up to me and now gets 57-58 on every tank. I have been getting 55-57 lately due to some interstate travel at 70 mph. Without the highspeed travel we get 56-60 MPG.
I always fill it on the lowest step, and check the oil, wash the windows, etc in the meantime. When it clicks off, I wait ~30 seconds, then try one more time. It usually takes ~.5 gallons, then clicks again, and I leave it at that.
I've had other toyotas in addition to the '06 Prius. All of them, including the Prius are just about chock full at the first click. That has not been the case with my other cars, but has been with all Toyotas. onward
Now that I have the CAN-View I can report that at the first click my tank is 97% full. Since it took 8.5 gallons to get from 17% to 97%, my actual tank capacity is 10.6 gallons. That means I could get another dollar's worth in, but after that it'd be filling the filler pipe

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom_06 @ May 11 2006, 05:21 AM) </div> same, about once every 8-10 tanks i'll fill to second click, with a burp between, just to reset it in case the mfd was off (usually it overestimates your mpg), and since i don't fill exactly to the number of gallons i think i used.
