I have enjoyed HUD with my RX350, it should be standard by now, very useful for long trips , navigation direction, speed limits, especially in canada where you can switch to Kmph speed display, i did not choose this option with my upcoming 2016 Prius (just for commute and around town) car.

I love my HUD in my gen. 3 and never have any problem seeing it .
I read the gen. 4 manual and it says that the EV Indicator is only shown on the Eco-meter displayed on the MFD,so how can you tell by the HUD if the car switches to EV driving ?
The HUD in the 3. gen Prius displays an EV indicator on the windshield but if the HUD in gen. 4 no longer does that and you do not have the Eco-meter nor the energy flow screen displayed on the MFD, how do you detect the car's in its voluntary EV-mode ?
Just because the bar in the Eco-meter is in the down below region doesn't necessarily mean the car is running on electricity only .
Does the new HUD also show lane guidance ?

Exactly! HUD, dynamic cruise control is amazing in traffic, and i love the moonroof. That compelled me to fork over for the ATP package. Getting the moonroof by itself is a $1500 job, so its a few hundreds more for a lot more tech.

For me, i love the HUD, it's very interesting and has a lot of information. I wished the ECO gauge would be a little bigger, but I like that you can move the display up or down. I dont think the Mazdas was able to do that.

Which trim models have HUD avail? Standard or option?

    Seems pretty neat.

It's available on Trims Three and Four as part of the Advance Tech Package (ATP)

You need the Advance Technology Package, which is an option on Prius 3 and 4, while standard on the Touring versions (if my memory serves me)

I dont think it's standard on the Touring versions. It was only available on Three and Four (non touring) trims as part of the ATP

I think you may be right. The Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard on the Touring (requires ATP on non-Touring), but per Visual Tables the HUD is not available in the Touring. Thanks for the correction.

No problem. I was just stating the facts for perspective buyers. The alphabet soup is really confusing to be honest. Don't understand why a Touring model won't have that ATP option though..

It's separated into 3 sections - you just learn that for the most part, if you're below a certain line - you're in EV and not using fuel. This is not 100% accurate but it's 99% accurate once you learn the lines and what "typically" is happening at those meter levels. Plus, once you've eyed the EV indicator enough, you also will basically know - anytime I'm not really accelerating and the car feels super smooth (even at 65+ on freeway) - you're on EV.

So you are right - you can't visually necessarily confirm exactly every moment via the meter rather than the EV display - but you are "in the know" the great majority of the time after you've studied the meter and EV for a while and get to know the car and its feel, etc.

I don't know the purpose of having to know the EV 100% of the time as there isn't much you can do about it really - nor would I think I would want to drastically change my driving habits just to ensure specific EV mode.

But technically - yes.. there isn't a specific EV indicator on the HUD.

The HUD does not show lane guidance no. It only shows (but very clearly and well done) the actual turn.

    Thanks for answering !
Wouldn't have been a problem to just change the color of the eco-bar to indicate the car is moving in ev-mode !
I am so used to seeing on the windscreen, but I'll guess I will have learn to live without it ! :(

Might take getting used to, that's for sure. Does seem a little distracting.

Yeah a little bit but I'm sure just like the radio and windshield wipers (that were thought to be distracting when introduced), we'll get used to it.

I picked up my new Prius on Friday. I'm unable to get the HUD to display turn indicators. Everything else on the HUD works fine. I live in the UK, is it plausible that this is a feature not offered here? Seems a obscure thing to remove from certain markets.

The HUD cycle button appears to have 3 stages. Off, speed only and speed with EV gauge. Am I missing something?

Antipodeans seem to suffer from some pretty limited specifications with the Prius in general, sorry that this seems to be one you share with us Brits.
