Drop in replacement battery question

    So to be clear, the "51JIS Battery RK-AGM51JIS by Exide Technologies for $119.99 : Rural King" should be a drop in replacement for my prius (genII 2007)? I don't have the smart key so from what I understand the battery tray is different since it originally came with a smaller battery, but I assume that shouldn't be too hard to replace with the OEM tray from a smark-key genII prius

    If you are a diyer mechanic, yes it will be easy. just make sure the polarity is correct.

    Remember, when you remove the battery connectors, NEGATIVE side first then Positive. On install, positive then negative

    I'm not sure if the group 51JIS have the same standard as the Prius but I know all of Exide variant AGM batteries are BMW standards. Make sure they ship with the battery with the vent elbows. If it doesn't come with the vent elbows, you can use the BMW battery vent elbow. They didn't ship the vent elbows when I ordered mine from Rural King. I research the Prius batteries when I replaced mine last year.

    Thanks, placed my order and we'll see how the install goes. $120-$20MIR, no tax for me, free shipping and no core charge that I could see on the receipt. Current OEM battery is on the fritz (9 years old this month since I bought the car new, battery must be at least a few months older). If I start in ACC mode and turn on the headlights and rear defroster the voltage drops to almost 9v and kills the car, and that was after fully topping off the battery with a trickle charger the day before....

    Just to follow up. Battery came this past week, was fresh (manufactured dec 15, with a shipped jan 16 sticker) and came with the elbow vent that was compatible with the vent tubing already in the car. It was a quick in and out install, well in my case I didn't get the smart key bracket/tray yet so its being held with a couple blocks of wood until the next time I visit the junkyard.

    If I could do the battery upgrade over again, I would now have simply just cut the metal arm off (lengthwise arm), as it simply acts as a book end. If you really want the 'book end,' trim a piece of wood (2x4 or 4x4) to fill the void, securing the wood to the bottom of the metal bracket with some wood screws, to be flush into the bottom of the metal bracket.

    This thought never occurred to me until I read Britprius' mobility AGM battery upgrade.
