One of my front woofers has blown in my 2005 Prius with JBL sound. I'm looking to replace both front woofers and I'm researching to see what my options are. I searched quite a bit on here but still did find all of the answers to my questions. 1) Are there any aftermarket component speaker sets that are plug-n-play or do they all require re-drilling and rewiring? 2) Can I use the 2006+ JBL speakers instead? They have different part numbers but look identical(dimension and plug wise). Thanks
Based on my experience, you're far better off going aftermarket speakers. I just replaced the ones in my 2013 and they are very low quality. You won't have to re-wire but only re-connect the the replacement speakers. You can re-use the original wires and re-connect. That can be done with adapters too if you want to do minimal work. Crutchfield should be a good store that can provide the adapters(wire and speaker) needed and even recommend speakers that will fit based on your car. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply. Do you have the JBL premium sound in your 3rd gen? I've been really happy with the stock JBL speakers in my 2nd gen. By adapters, do you mean the brackets to mount the speakers? Have you worked on the 2nd gen Prius audio before?
I have s gen 3 and have not worked in gen 2. I have the non jbl system. I think of your happy with it, just replace it with comparable model. iPhone ?
2) Can I use the 2006+ JBL speakers instead? They have different part numbers but look identical(dimension and plug wise). tampa prius said he thinks the 2006 had upgraded speaker cones, so you could get some from a junk yard out of a newer car.
