Hello all, I live in Guyana, South America and I have a friend with a 2006 Prius (Imported from Japan). He has lost the only keyfob that the car came with and is thus in a jam. There is no Toyota dealer in Guyana qualified to reset the relevant ECU and program a new key. Based on what I've read online it seems his only option is to get a replacement ECU and a matching key that works. I also have a 2006 JDM Prius and would like to temporarily put the ECU(s) from my car into his and use my keyfob to start his car so that he can take it home until we find a permanent solution. My questions are which ECU or ECUs do I need to switch over and where are they located? Has anyone here done this successfully before? Both cars use non-SKS fobs. Any help would be much appreciated. HTC One_M8 ?
If it were me, I'd buy the Techstream software and mini VCI and a new FOB (also from ebay) and program it myself.
You have to possess one key that's already programed to the car to program a new FOB without Techstream.
You need a functioning key fob to do this. Without a functioning key fob, I believe only a Toyota dealer can perform this service.
Not all functions are available, particularly security functions, without logging in to home base with a valid dealer log in.
