Just started up my car and the "Check Hybrid warning system" came on, along with a check engine light. The car starts and moves, but I'm unsure if I should drive it to the dealer two miles away without doing any further damage to the vehicle or have it towed. The car has 130000 miles and is serviced every 5000 at the dealer with all recommended maintenance performed. Thanks, Jim
I have owned it since 2014, so its possible its the original battery. Just had it serviced 3 weeks ago and everything was up to specs. Vehicle starts. I do have AAA.
you can have it flat bedded to the dealer for free. they can also test your 12v, but they don't really understand hybrids.
You are in a "CARB" state, therefore as long as the car was originally sold in a "CARB" state, the hybrid portion of the car should be under warranty. With that said, I would contact your local dealer and have the car checked out by them. It might be a weak 12 volt battery, or it might be something else in the hybrid section of the car. Until the codes are pulled, you really are guessing. FWIW, I don't believe driving it two miles to the dealer will hurt it. YMMV Best of luck to you.
Thank you for all the fast replies. Since I'm paying for Triple A, just going to have it towed for free. Hopefully it's nothing major. Thanks again, Jim
I had to disconnect my LV battery due to a collision loss (minor front end damage). Reconnected the battery and attempted to start the car. The "Check Hybrid System" warning is displayed and the car will not start or go into "Ready" status. It will power up and accessories will work (radio) but that's it. Cycled the start button 4 or 5 times to no avail. Any thoughts??
Cycle it a few more times, may need up to ten times to clear. If it still doesn't clear, there may be a shorted wire somewhere, especially near the front end damage.
Update: I did have the car towed. Dealer came up with the following codes: P3190, P3191 and P0A0F. I had a bad Vacuum Switching Valve and since it was part of the hybrid system, it was covered under warranty. Again, thank you for your replies. Jim
Thanks Xliderider,10 cycles worked like a charm. The gas motor started and idled for 5 minutes then shut down and the electric motor took over just like old times.I appreciate your quick response and accurate solution.
