According to the article the complaints were for 2000-2001 model tundras, we have an 07 and there almost no rust on it.

You also appear to be in Texas, big difference from up north in the amount of road salt.

We got it at 46k miles and it came up north. From what Ive read and seen it was limited to the gen 1 tundras. Since then they started treating the frames with a corrosion inhibitor before assembly.

Toyota as a manufacture have always been know as one of the better Japanese brands against rusting.

I was a bit dismayed by the condition of our 2010 undercarriage, 4.5 years in: all bolts looking quite rusty, same for suspension members, especially at welds. We get a lot of rain, snows next to never.

4.5 years? Our 2010 (Aug 09) is 6.5 years next month

I looked into undercarriage condition about 6 mo back. Ours was also build date Aug 09; we bought it (new) in Nov 10.

My 2010 is a tad over 6 years old with 105k...by year 20 I would expect it to have about 285k (don't drive as much now). With proper maintenance I think there's a good chance the car will be running at that time. As of now I plan to drive the car 14 more years, but that's a long time so who knows if I'll change my mind. I hate car payments and I sorta get attached to my cars (thinking about the car being with me through all small and big life happenings of the past).

Good luck with your goal. I have a 17 year old Ford Ranger with 145,000 miles. It's still running strong.

Funny how a modal year can be built almost a year early (i.e. 2016 model built in spring of 2015). My 99 truck was built in Aug. 98 and I bought it two months later (hot off the assembly line).

The only real caution is for cars that don't sell well and are purchased "new" when they were built nearly two years prior. Up in the rust belt every part takes a hit if it wasn't even started for a long time.

Holy moly... I can't find my source when I looked that up. I stand corrected. 5 years was bogus. Average is 11.4 years or so. (y)
