I've tried combing the threads for a instrument cluster how to repair but have had no luck. I'm a pretty handy guy and try to do most repairs myself. Is this something I could tackle or do I have to be an electrical engineer? I also use my prius for my work vehicle so sending the unit out for repair would be my last resort. I found a guy on ebay who repairs your original unit for $115, and yes mine out of the 9 year dealer replacement period. I have a 2004 prius with 206k and my instrument cluster has been going out periodically for about a year now but seems to be getting more frequent. Any help is greatly appreciated!
iirc there's a bad solder point that's pretty easy to fix. call steve at auto be yours, he might be willing to walk you through it.
Thanks! I'll give him a call. I figured it had to be something like a bad solder point. Does anyone have a picture of where the bad solder point is at by chance?
I have searched for hours trying to find the fix for my 2006 CM, which is also out of warranty. Just a guess, but maybe it is just bad caps? Tj
I own a 2004 Prius with same issue. Were you able to repair instrument cluster problem your car had? Every once in a while cluster goes blank.Although car keep on running and can be driven, speed and other info is not visible. Cluster lights come back once car has been turned off for a short time.
I found this on Ebay 04 05 06 07 08 09 Toyota Prius Combination Meter Instrument Cluster Repair Servi | eBay He will fix it for $115.01 Sound like it is a lot of cash for a cold solder joint. My HUD display goes out in very cold weather.
You should ask them that do they just repair the solder joints or do they also upgrade the startup circuitry of that microcontroller? If it is just solder joint repair it’s pretty expensive.
