    Hey all,

I don't see that many people posting the price they got for their car and I was wondering, how can I prevent myself from getting ripped off on the car? Like, how do I know if the price they gave me is already a good deal? I need help! I have around 25-27,000 budget and all I want is the prius base II model. I also don't understand why the base II uses a NiMH versus Lithium ion in the 3 and higher models because the MPGs are the same. I am in bay area California btw!

For what you are looking for, base model with floormats (preferred pkg) invoice is about $24k and msrp is about $25k (includes $835 shipping charge). This is what you should pay. Red or white paint would be $200-400 more but not avail. yet. Price/build at Edmunds.com is the best way then go looking.Toyota say their are 39 of these near zip 94114.

the whole thing with the battery is from weight savings and cost.

save weight from the battery they can add other things!

Do not pay MSRP!! We went through the Costco Buyers program on a Prius 3 with carpet mat package and cargo net and paid $25,005. This is below invoice by $850. MSRP is much higher.

I tried costco but the pricing for the 2016 prius is not available yet. So anything within 1,000 above destination+invoice is fair deal? Is true car accurate? It is around 24,500 for prius II before TTL.

Thanks. I do have one more question. Regarding the toyota grad loan 750 dollars rebate incentive. I don't need to finance but I want to take advantage of the rebate. Would it be possible to finance say, 500 dollars or is there some hidden minimum loan required?

there are tons of buying services or online resources that can tell you the difference between MSRP and "dealer cost". That tells you what the dealer's margin is.

I haven't had success with the Costco buying service, but the Consumer Reports buying service (via TrueCar) worked well. $1000-$1500 below MSRP no hassle (via a pre-negotiated price with each dealership.. you will see that price and have it auto-confirmed by the dealership before you ever talk to them --- print it out and bring it with you and they honor that price).

now.. that's good for no work - but one can do much better than that if they negotiate and there are tricks out there.

since this car just came out and should be a pretty hot car b/c of all the improvements - don't expect heavy discounts for a while. If you want the best discounts, the best time to buy is near the end of the month around Aug-Oct (when the new models typically start shipping). That's when they typically try to get rid of all the current year models as fast as they can to get the most inventory of the new models.

    Good luck!

I am from Chicago FYI...I asked what is the OTD price for the two eco and they gave me 29K until I told them I dont want added security and permaplate on there but they didnt want to lower the price so I asked for the GM and that is when I got an OTD price with TTL for the 2016 prius two eco for $27,200 and they didnt even have it in stock. I am trying to get this car for my gal since I already have the 3rd gen. I found out about the price for Costco on the forums here and they knocked in down to $26,363 OTD at another dealership(2nd dealer), then I went to test drive it with my gal at another dealership( 3rd one so far) she loved it and they told me $26,263 OTD for the two eco, then me and my gal went to another dealership(4th one) right after and they gave us a price OTD for $26K even! I am planing to go to two more dealerships and get the price down to $25,700 OTD then Ill be happy : ) What do you guys think? Is it a fair price so far and how much lower you think I can go?? FYI none of the dealers have the prius two eco in stock!

Did find a Prius 2 Eco at this dealer actually has it listed on Auto Trader at $24,821 found most ads do not list the Eco but as Prius 2. At Toyota of Stafford Va was going to put a link but not enough post on forum.

....side topic but I'd be curious if Stafford Toyota is seeing impact on sales re: loss of free HOV on I-95 HOT lanes

My wife and I went to the Portland Oregon 2016 auto show yesterday. Toyota had the 2016 Prius ECO and Touring models. I noticed the white colored cup holders look terrible, what was Toyota thinking, that was on the more expensive touring model. Now the ECO model it was black and looked much, much better. However the white around the shift lever should be changed to black. I hope Toyota has black covers so they can be changed out. Now the interior dash on the 2016 is a heck of a lot better than our 2010 Prius.

thats exactly how i felt looking back SF auto show last year but console appliqué black overlay accessory is available, I'm opting to cover white area around shift lever, it does match white area at the steering as well so i don't know for now.....

I feel like the city dealerships tend to price kinda high. My personal feel is that Fox Lake and Pauly in Crystal Lake give the best numbers, but I'm not sure how much stock they actually have. I stopped by Grossinger North on my way downtown the other day (since it's just off I94) and they one had one. When we bought our car, we called every dealer in 500 miles - the car buyer sites came pretty close though.

    I just picked up a 2016 Prius 3 with Tech Package for $1000 below invoice. MSRP 29363 NET 26400.. after TTL+1.9apr/60month= 294xxish.
Payment of 512 w/ 0 down. Getting it below invoice is doable, just call ahead and put the cards on the table. I think I could have gotten more $500-1000 more off the price if I wanted to be patient and shop some more, but the wife was tired and didn't want to put it off any longer.

Does Costco do only local dealers? Closest Costco to is 75 miles away. Hardest part I will find is picking a color I like the red, white, black and gray in the Prius. Usually this is not the case with most cars last vehicle I picked white because I did not like any of the other colors offered.
