Rear wheel bearings shot (66K miles 0n a 2010). Can't remove hub as frozen. Recommended tools? Was going to try this, but reviews not good: 17 Piece Heavy Duty Slide Hammer Kit Also, any tips of removing the plug under plastic cover to hub? Looks like on new one there's a notch where it clips on bottom. Thanks! Chaz 2010 IV
Thx for reply. Correct, have the whole hub assemblies from Toyota dealer. Called auto parts store and they have a tool to rent, probably a slide hammer, but still need to figure out how the plug comes off without breaking
Just to update, used two very small screw drivers and pried off on top. Oddly, the clip to disengage the plug is on the bottom, and you can't get to it with the hub installed. You really need to remove before the hub or it could break. Engineers should have put the disengage clip on the top, not bottom. Car rides like new now...not more noise. The old bearings were trashed...spin by hand made a loud grinding noise. Slide hammer mounted to hub and a chisel on top with a big sledge hammer worked. I'd recommend getting standard lug nuts to use with a slide hammer as the chrome lug nuts too big. Would have made my job easier.
