Before I spend a lot of money

    So, i tried this and both ways discharged the battery and the engine came on.

    1. Are all of the warning lights in the photo from your OP still on?
    2. Can the car be driven? If so what driveability symptoms are demonstrated?
    3. Since you can start the engine, what happens to the traction battery state of charge gauge if you make the Prius READY, shift to D, press hard on the brake pedal to hold the car stationary, then floor the accelerator pedal to spin up the gasoline engine? That will force-charge the traction battery.

    1. Yes all the lights are still on.
    2. The car can still drive although I haven't driven because if I can't fix it. I will have to drive or tow it at least 35 miles one way.
    3. Ok, tried that goes to all green. Drove to down the block, 2 bars blue at the corner. Turned drove about 14 blocks went to 4 bars blue droped down to 2 bars blue pulled into driveway and went to1 bar black. Got it up to 4 bars blue then turned off. Driving seems fine although hard to drive in the dark with the red of the triangle.

    Sorry 2 is actually 60 miles with no side streets. Straight freeway.

    In your response to #3, "1 bar black", do you mean that there were no bars? Usually 1 or 2 bars will be a pinkish color. 3-6 bars are blue and 7-8 are green.

    If in fact there were no bars on the state of charge gauge, that is a good indication the traction battery is near-dead. In that case it is unclear your car can make a 60 mile trip at freeway speeds.

    Thanks for the info. I'm kind of iffy of it making it there. Might try to get it towed.

    For the discharge test make sure the car is warmed up so you at least have a chance to keep the gas engine off. It might also help to clear the codes just before the discharge test. This might give you enough time to run the test before the car again realizes there is a problem.

    Discharge test: car warmed up, set parking brake, gas engine off, transmission in reverse, foot on the brakes, give it just a little gas so you see energy leaving the battery on the mfd. In the live battery data screen there is a line that shows power into or out of the battery. A positive value shows a discharge and a negative value shows a charge. To get to the live battery data first run a health check. From the results screen click on the battery category on the left. From the battery screen click on the data list on the left.

    A weak module's voltage will rise faster and higher on charge and fall faster and lower on discharge. They really stand out with this test.

    I just wanted to thank you all for the valuable info. It was the traction battery which my dealer was able to get covered under the goodwill warranty.

    guys my problem was the inverter coolant pump and it was covered under warranty. Check your fuses, there is one that blows because the pump has a short circuit, this leads to all systems protection and it shuts down.
