Are these batteries warranted for 10 years or 100,000? Any experiential data regarding the life span of the 2008 hybrid batteries?

    Thanks!

Depending on where you live it's either 8 years or 100000 miles or 10 years or 150000 miles (Carb states have the longer warranty).

nope. 8/100 in florida, but you get other bennies from the mostly conservative government.

you would probably need an emissions inspection to become a carb 10/150 state.

my daughters '08 is still getting the same 55 mpg average at 100,000 miles as i got when i picked it up new.

not many reported here as failing, i know that much. it's been '05's and sixes, and just creeping into the 7's.

wow---I must be driving too many short trips--I get an average of 48 MPG..... I have to really get some preventative maintenance done--but only want to choose those items required--low mileage vehicle--26,000---- BUT I also have a patient itch for a new vehicle---
    ty!

you don't need much at 26,000, but that is telling about your driving habits. you might be better off with a bev or econo gasser.

We do not have real good data on battery life, but there are quite a few threads in the past. We did some surveys.

Consumer Reports did a survey a couple years ago suggesting 3-5% failure rate at the 8-10-yrs old mark. As mentioned by Bisco, anecdotally those failures seems to start approx. at the 8-yrs old mark

On PriusChat, where we have a very small sample set in our surveys, and we always measure higher battery failure rates here (up to 20-25% or so at the 10-yrs old mark). Presumably the reason is sample bias on PriusChat due to people logging in due to battery issues.

In any case, I always feel battery life is a valid topic to discuss on PriusChat, since many of our readers are here to discuss that.

Factors leading to HV battery failure are hotter climates, and on Gen2, running out of gasoline and then running down the battery to zero.

you said you were itching for a new ride? an electric car, or 30-35 mpg gasoline might be more suitable for your short trips.

LOL--gotcha---wanted to see the new Prius---and I am NOT totally sure which electric ride to trust.....I am attached to the prius branding, and know their hybrid system has been one oft he best; I have ridden in a Ford Eco--that was not too bad---just want to plop my money on something good! And MORE sound proof---
