My dealer finally gave up on attempting to get me in to order one, because he could never get the proper paperwork.
This always happens when new model comes out, Toyota wants to sell as many of the prior model cars before releasing new model stock to dealers. The delay in regions signals there is still a large inventory of 2015 at dealers.
Friday, the what? Last Friday - Christmas, next Friday - New Years day, The next one - January 8th? Available to order, or to actually see? In all states? Which models?
If you can't get better information from your dealer, then might be a good idea to call another dealer.
Wrong question: "Why delayed release?" should be "Why didn't they wait until the dealers had full inventory before letting anyone know?" Turn the question on its head and the answers become easier (says the old guy who got high SAT scores.) Bob Wilson
i heard january 1st. but the west coast already has some, and it will take awhile for the middle of the country and east coast to get to the dealers. houston shouldn't take too long, where does your ship come in?
Ship arrives on 12/30 here (Portland, OR) as per the dealer...likely a couple more weeks before it makes it to the dealership.
I ordered my first one from Japan and it took a long time to get here. I believe that it came in to California and then was shipped to Texas by truck. The next 2 I bought from dealer stock.
i bought my first 2 from stock, and ordered my third from japan. that was exciting, but nerve wracking.
We bought our 2010 after it'd been sitting at the back of a shed on the dealership's lot, covered in dust, 15 months past manufacture date. There was a dead bird lying beside it.

I remember when my dealer put in the allocation request on my 2010. If I remember correctly, it took about 3 months from the time the allocation was confirmed until I took delivery. It was exciting to get the updates, especially using vessel tracker to track it from Japan to port.
Be a hard sell in January, not to mention the sticker shock if in close proximity to a discounted 2015 model. Except for the ECO version, I think the epa sticker is underwhelming.
I visited my dealer yesterday and the only folder he had was for a Prius v wagon. I didn't even know they were continuing that model. He indicated those would be the first to arrive, but had no idea when they would show up. He said he was from the northwest (Seattle, Oregon area) and they sold many Priuses there, but extremely few in the Houston area.
There were sightings of 2016 Prius on West Coast dealer lots before Christmas, although not yet on sale. Here on the East Coast the dealers I have spoken with have vehicle allocations due for delivery by mid-January. The vehicle I have a deposit on is HERE. Check with your local dealers and ask about the allocations (trim lines, pricing, and delivery dates)
