I got my 2015 3 weeks ago and I realized my sunglasses are too big for the compartment above, which I'm glad to throw away anyways because I only paid 5bux for it at DD's Discount, imagine if it were $100 dollars and couldn't fit in the bin I'd be mad.

I think we all have (3) options as Prius owners:
    A) get rid of the car if you really insist on your current sunglasses to fit instead of getting new pairs that would
    B) Buy pairs that fit placing them lens in first
    C) if none of the sunglasses you try fit but still want to keep your PRIUS, then use the compartment for lip balm or tampons, LOL

Love your PRIUS no matter what

Just wait until the sunglass trend changes. Probably won't have to wait too long.

You should just wear your sunglasses all the time...

I wear my sunglasses at night, so I can keep track of the visions in my eyes. And I wear my sunglasses at night so I can see the light that is right before my eyes.

I seem to remember that my first Prius very specifically did NOT have a sunglasses holder up on the ceiling, just an auxiliary storage bin that just coincidentally happened to be the right size and shape to hold many sunglasses. But due to very high roof temperatures while parked, any glasses stored there are at risk of heat damage. At least, that is what the disclaimer says.

All the lip balm I've ever seen is far more susceptible to heat damage than any glasses I've ever owned.

Due to a sunroof, my current Prius lacks that storage bin.

It's probably a good way to see flashing blue lights in you rear view mirror.

I don't see any flashing blue lights.

For those who missed the first clue, here is another:

Good Sunglasses deserve better than to be bouncing around in that lame ceiling carrier.

My late 1970s vintage Vuarnet cat eyes fit snugly in the overhead glasses holder.

I'm uncomfortable driving with sunglasses, feel like I've lost an edge, and that's all I've got, lol.

Actually since packing it within with contacts (got tired of needing reading glasses with them) I'd not worn shades for years, 'till I managed to break my glasses, and my new pair came with semi-cool looking, magnetic clip-ons. But still, they're a novelty item for me: wearing them on sunny days, can hardly see anything in the shadows.

i hear you. i wear clip ons because i have to switch back and forth so much, it's not worth prescription sunglasses.i put my clip ons above the lid i the open position. but they can slide off in a hard corner. wouldn't it be cool if toyota created some flat surfaces in the gen5?

Honestly, bad question, nobody wears 5$ sunglasses, they simply make you go blind, without hairy palms, the overhead is adequate, if you want plush, buy an add on device.

Yep, the glasses holder is pretty conservative as far as size goes.
    What I do?
I keep a pair that does fit in the holder....for emergency situations where I am not wearing them, and suddenly come into the sun or glare.

BUT I keep my "real" pair in the glove box, and that is the pair I use most of the summer or when I know I'm going to need them.

This is really not a big deal. Toyota made the holder fit a very conservative standardized size. I bought the vehicle to be a vehicle, not a sunglass holder.

I use the upper glove box to hold my sunglasses since I don't even have a sunglasses compartment (IV with solar roof).
