my wheels are 215 17 45.. am looking forward to make the wheelbase some more wide.... local stores have aluminium wheel plates(sorta wheel spacers but just made locally-)....is it ok to put on such thing? thanx in adv
Depends on the width of the spacer. Too wide, and there will not be enough thread engagement on the wheel studs by the lugnuts. In other words, your wheels may come off while you are driving. Also, if the large hole in the center of your "spacer plate" isn't the same diameter as your hub, then your hub isn't supporting the weight of the vehicle, and the wheel may not be perfectly centered. This puts additional stress on the wheel studs (see above). There are hubcentric ring adapters that are used to center the spacers and to ensure that weight is taken up evenly by the wheel studs.
Check your wheel and see how it fits without the spacer first.I got some FRS/BRZ 17" wheels and they are hitting the caliper with out spacer. Currently have a 5mm spacer, but it doesn't leave much thread for the lug nut. I'm going to swap it to 3mm spacer for a better thread lock.
