I haven't been charging it even though I get to charge it at work for free. Got the car mainly for carpool. But surprisingly, I'm getting an average of 60 MPG, not bad at all. My 2010 got 52 only.
The PiP not plugged in should yield a slightly higher fuel economy than the regular Gen3 if all other variable are the exact same. It is mainly due to efficiencies of less losses upon energy transfers into and out of the battery.
i average 70 mpg when not plugged in. you can see my stats in the spreadsheet. the li-on battery and other improvements are amazing. can't wait for the next gen.
