Is this deal too good to be true? toyota dealer, 2010 prius with 49K miles. New sailun tires. toyota certified, etc. it's about 3.5 hours a way, so i'm also considering having it delivered to me as I've driven in gen 3 priuses before.
is that a good price for a 6 year old car? edit: kbb says fair market range $13,500 - $16,500. so, depending on contain and history, that sounds pretty good. must be your location. 16k is the high side here. you must have a lot of demand.
Considering a brand new 2015 Prius 2 costs about $19000, I don't see why you would think this is that great. The Prius V also had a technology package that's worth $5000 when new. You have to see if that car has that tech package.
kbb lists this the average cost of this vehicle between 16k and 19k for a certified used. i know very little as this would be my first prius, which is why i'm here asking questions.
What options are important to you? Buying a brand new 2015 now will be your best bang for your buck and you can count on 10 years of reliability.
I really need leather interior and would like a decent sound system. Blue tooth connectivity or mp3. Also my dealer only has 24k new Prius, so that's like an extra 11k when you factor in tax. Where is the 20k new Prius? I'm not seeing it. Also I don't know how much demand is in Michigan right now. I did a Toyota certified search for 250 from my location, the price seems par for the course or maybe I'm missing something?
If you really need leather or leatherlike materials, then you would need to look for a Prius 4 or Prius 5. All the lower models won't have leather (standard). If you wanted to save money, you could buy a Prius 2, which has a decent sound system and mp3/bluetooth. For the leather options, you could purchase a set of clazzio leather seat covers, and that would run you about $500. I'm sure Michigan would have the same Prius 2 cars for around $19k - $20k. Yes the sticker price is $24k, but they are currently selling them with approximately a $5000 discount, to clear them out before the 2016 models arrive.
Lol not any dealers immediately by me. One has a couple 2s for 22k. So I guess I'm just looking for confirmation that 14.8 is a normal price ?

Dave, there should be a USB port inside the armrest at the back. It also has bluetooth. The build date would be useful. Is the car a base V, V-NAV, or V-AT? Do you see the sensors on the bumper? Can you see the Radar Cruise Control button on the steering wheel? The nav screen on the dash should be obvious. Is there a Safety Connect panel by the mirror? Maybe that was Grandpa's last car. Maybe it was fished out of a lake. Why were the tires replaced? Dry rot from non-use? Alignment problem from a collision? Last owner/seller didn't care about fuel economy or handling--just cheap tires. Buying a new car sight unseen is one thing. A dealer is stuck fixing the defects and the carrier's insurance is on the hook for damage. If you don't/can't invest a day in checking out the car can you find a local agent? -- Make sure you get two working fobs. -- $21364 can buy a Two in Toledo through truecar. Also try zip codes in the neighboring states. -- Hope it works out.
the car fax was pretty clean. It's start date was Jan 2009 so it's an early model. The issue I seem to be having a lot is that I know more about the Prius than most of the sales people, which is scary because I feel like I don't know that much. The forum has been great, I'm usually on guitar forums but that's an entirely different story. In the meantime I'm looking at other options and have my eye on a 2013 Persona out of page toyota in Southfield for $16,8758K with about 60,000 miles, but haven't had a chance to talk to anyone there yet. Anything I should look out for with that model? There was also a 2013 IV, but the car fax has it listed in a signifigant accident early on in it's life. Car gurus said the car has been on the lot for 45 days, so maybe they'll be looking to get the vehicle off the lot and deal.
When I shop for cars and use research sites, I only look at values for private party, even though I am going to buy from a dealer. This is especially when in our current environment of low gas prices, the prius has very little demand from the public. If I am looking to buy from private party, I compare them with trade in values, unless that car is in exceptional condition, then I would pay the fair value. This is a buyer's market right now. This is a good time to find a great deal. iPhone ?
Well I pulled the plug on the 2013 persona, got $475 off the tagged price so $16,450, so it's a 2013 Prius Persona SE for out the door $17,708.04 with taxes, title, fees, registration, etc. I probably could have gotten a "better" deal, but I wore myself out and being a one car family has been draining on me for the last month. I'm kind of relieved to just be done at this point.
Be prepared to resistance from a dealership service department, regarding the tranaxle fluid drain/fill. It's not on the maintenance schedule, and there's an incredible amount of misinformation on their part, due maybe to more complicated procedures with other vehicles? At any rate, it's a simple drain/fill. There should be four quarts (or liters) of Toyota ATF-WS fluid on hand; it takes about 3.5. Fill level is determined by simply having the car level, and adding fluid 'till it starts coming back out. The fluid's under $10 per quart (or liter), and it's about 1/2 hour labour, with a lift. For sure shouldn't cost over $100 at the dealership.
