Hi all, All kinds of warning lights, car running rough, etc. ran the code and it came up with this. Did some research and found some possible reasons. Has anyone repaired this themselves or had it repaired? If so how much did it cost you?
DTC P0A80 means that the high voltage traction battery needs to be replaced. The repair cost will depend upon whether you want to install a new replacement, a "refurb" battery, a battery from a salvage yard, or attempt to replace individual modules.
There is a warranty on the batteries, depending on what state you live in. You might be covered under warranty.
Is this the main battery for the car? Not the 12 volt but the big one in the back? If so, possibly good news, I live in Cal where there is supposed to be a 10 year warranty on it.
In that case, I still have a very good option for you. Because you are in CA, there is a person selling parts off his wrecked car in Anaheim. I believe he still has his battery which was just replaced 3 months ago from Toyota (with receipt). If you like I can provide you his number to get the battery. His asking price is $800 and right now I'm assuming he still has it but it's been a week since I've heard from him. Alternatively, you can refer to Patrick's 1st post for additional options

I'm in Alan17's shoes! Don't know how much is anything we did: The hatch door was left opened overnight and the next morning the car was dead. Hubby charged it 10 min, then drove it a couple of miles and parked it. Next day when we went to take it out, we got this display. Called the dealer who said it would need to be put on the code reader ($65 and a couple hours next week.) I learned that I HAD a code reader on it already and learned that the code was P0A80 - the hybrid battery. I re- called the dealer and asked about the warranty (expired in March) and she was emphatic that i should bring it for analysis b/c it may not be the hybrid battery. We took the car out again for a 2 mile trip and only 2 lights (the 'MAster Service' light and 'Check Engine' light were on this time... I am still hoping it's a temporary ailment that time & driving will heal. Any chance of that? What would you all suggest?
I think your hybrid battery has an issue, as you got the P0A80 code. You could get a refurbished battery from Dorman (sold at major auto parts stores) for about $1500 and get a 3 year warranty. That does not mean the battery will be troublefree in the next 3 years, just means it'll be covered under a warranty when it fails. Or you can bring it to the dealer and get it diagnosed for $65 and they will tell you the P0A80 means you need a new hv battery. But from this point, you can ask them to contact Toyota HQ to offer you some assistance in replacement. Many members had very good luck in asking for assistance, where Toyota would pay for 1/2 or more of the total cost. The estimated cost for 1/2 the NEW hv battery will be around $1500-$1800. A new battery should be trouble free for the next 8-10 years and will increase the value of your car (or make it more desirable) if you decide to sell at a later time. So you have those 2 (reliable) options if you wish to fix the problem.
Sounds like what I need to do, I guess. - Just got back from a 3k+ trip to Texas and commented more than just a few times on how much LOVE this car! Well, mostly the economic aspect but it's a spunky little car to drive. Never noticed the first complaint from it until the warning lights appeared. Maybe it seemed to 'idle' rougher than I remembered when it's stopped. I don't watch the display anymore because I didn't know you should. I do/did drive with my lights on as a safety measure and have run down the battery more than once when the driver does not get out of the car at a stop! Could that have been an issue?
