I recently bought a 2010 Prius to do Uber with. But the government department responsible for issuing the vehicle with it ratings labels, has put it's tare weight as being 1350kg, and it's GVM as being only 1625kg ! This would only allow the car to carry 275kg, which is way too low to be a useful car to anyone. The previous 1.5L model Prius has a GVM of 1760kg, and the latest model is up to 1805kg. The owners manual I downloaded for the 2010 Prius says it can carry 370kg, which would give the vehicle a GVM of 1720kg. The actual model is the ZVW30-AHXEB. I have tried to find this information on the net, but I am having no luck. Please help ! Thanks, John

You may be bitten by the idea of "model years," in the US the Gen 2 model years were 2004 to 2009, while the Gen 3 model years were 2010 to 2015 as shown. (introduced in June 2009 in the US) If in NZ Gen 2 was listed as a 2010, then that weight is incorrect, as the Gen 2 was Curb weight 1,317 kg (2,903 lb) and looked more like this. If your 2010 looks more like this, as it would in the US, my first weights are correct
I have the one like the bottom car, the new shape. I will have to go to Toyota New Zealand and get them to write something that I can submit to the NZTA to advise them that they're wrong. There are a whole heap of these newer Prius' running around Auckland as Taxi and Uber cars, and they can carry a lot more than 275kg. Why would Toyota make a 5 seater that could only carry 275kg ? Cheers, John In NZ, the NZTA (New Zealand Transport Agency) have got the Gen 2 tare weight listed as 1260kg ( I believe that they weigh what you say, 1320kg ), and are rating the as having a GVM of 1760kg, That means they are allowing a Gen 2 Prius to carry 500kgs, but the Gen 3 only 275kg, which is totally mental.
Yes, as the AU Toyota site states, 440 kg is closer to the stated capacity. (in the US it went from 925 lbs in Gen 2 to 950 lbs in Gen 3, as I recall, 420 kg to 431 kg if I did the math right)
