We bought a brand new Gen 3 Prius less than 2 weeks ago and discovered something that doesn't seem right. The car appears to be unable to go up a somewhat steep hill at more than 20 mph. My husband was driving it and he tried to press the gas pedal harder to make it go faster but instead the exclamation point in a triangle appeared and there was a burning smell. This is our second Prius and the old Gen 2 went up that hill hundreds of times without problems. Before we assume that we have a lemon, is it possible that there is a setting that is not correct or something? Thanks, Olga
You should of taken it back to the dealer as soon as the triangle appeared. Sure they will make it right.
I probably wouldn't be dogging a brand new car uphill like that...smoke or not. It's not the best thing for it. but also i don't see why it shouldn't be able to do it.
Took it to the dealer today. They drove the car with me and couldn't duplicate the problem. Of course we could not recreate the exact same scenario where the car was driven on the freeway for 25 miles and then went up on a long incline on the canyon. You see, the triangle went away when my husband stopped forcing the car. They hooked it up to the computer and everything came out fine.
Is the steep uphill on rocks and dirt? Something's fishy, a code should have appeared when the obd2 was hooked up. Is the steep hill rocks and dirt that was wet?
You're doing it wrong If you're pushing the pedal all the way. You don't do that going uphill. The engine will make a lot of noise, but won't go any faster because it doesn't have the power. It will catch up if you do it slowly, but it really depends on the hill.
let me ask you, what is the correct way to drive uphill without pressing the go pedal? also, why the engine "doesn't have the power." nice, very nice indeed. are you also that nice in the person, or is it only on a forum?
