    Hello,

I have been reading the various posts on this site and found some useful information but I need some advise. I removed the plastic wheel covers and ordered the OEM wheel center covers today. I saw a picture on another thread of someone that painted the center covers black which looked really nice. I am planning to do the same thing and was thinking that black lug nuts would look even better. I checked with our local dealer but they only have the chrome ones. He said they use McGard and Gorrilla lug nuts but I went to both of their sites and the nuts I found that look similar to the OEM ones said that they aren't meant for OEM wheels. I don't want to take any chances so can someone give me some feedback or show me where I can find some black lug nuts that are safe to use with my OEM wheels? Thanks. 2015 Prius TWO

here's an old pic when I used to have stocks. But I just painted the chrome ones and it turned out fine. Not sure if its an option you are willing to consider.

but when I painted my "Home Depot-Solution" center caps, there was some paint chipping due to no clearcoat. Here, Captain planet is pointing it out.

But I dont see why you wouldnt be able to buy aftermarket lugs if you want. Just make sure its 12 x 1.5M and has the correct "seat" for the wheel. Pictured below, I have my OEM lug compared to the FRS OEM and the one I am currently using on mine.

Thanks for the input. I think painting the lug nuts is too much work for me. I wouldn't want to paint them while still in the wheel and I don't want to spend the time removing them to paint and dry. Also, won't the paint scratch off with the wrench?

Looks like the black paint on the wheel started to rub off in the first pic. How long had the covers been off when you took that pic?

Here's the pic from the other thread I mentioned. This is what mine will look like soon.

    I painted the center caps last night using this;

Does anyone think I should apply another coat tonight? I applied a couple lite coats then waited an hour to apply another set of lite coats. The can says you may apply a 2nd coat an hour later or after 48 hours. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure you wait the 48 hours. Otherwise the solvents in the paint can wrinkle the paint that is already there.

Ok that makes sense. Thanks. Also, after the first coat I left them outside to dry and of course the wind blew two of them over on the newspaper. Little pieces of paper got stuck to the paint so I had to lightly scratch it off before applying the next coat. It isn't really noticeable but you can see little bumps where I rubbed the paper off so I may want to fix these two caps. The caps are plastic so should I use nail polish remover or a fine sand paper so I can repaint these?

Don't use the nail polish remover, it will cause more problems than its worth. You can use really fine sandpaper or a Scotch Brite pad. If you go sandpaper, no more than 800 grit, maybe 1000 grit. If you go for the Scotch Brite use the gray colored pads. And remember to use light pressure. The paint is dry but not fully cured, and you don't have a very thick paint film. You don't want to leave scratches.

I bought the 1000 grit and it worked really well. Now I just have to wait another day for the final coat then they should be ready to install Wednesday night. Hopefully they pop in there without a fuss. Thanks for the advise!

I've been thinking of getting acorn style, black anodized lug nuts, for use with black, steel rim snow tires. There's plenty on Amazon, but they're typically very long, one-size-fits-all I guess. Resisting getting any so far, think they'll look too long.

All the ones I've seen, either black or chrome, are 1.4" long, I think anything .75" or a bit more would be fine.

Visual aid regarding the stud projection. This is at a rear wheel, they project a bit more than the fronts:

Yea I was just interested in finding some that are the same as the stock lug nuts. I think the long ones are meant for trucks. Does anyone know what style stock lug nuts are for the 2015 Prius? Seems like it should be simple to find. My dealer uses McGard but McGard says their lug nuts aren't meant for stock wheels. Wth? I get confused on the wheel locks too. My dealer said I'd have to buy these too. I just want some black nuts no pun intended. lol

I believe 60 degree tapered seat, M12x1.5, for steel rims. For the OEM alloys it's the same thread pitch (obviously) and the same tapered seat (in case you use the spare) but also a captured washer, that does the actual clamping with the alloy rim. You can plug a vehicle in on amazon, and it'll say "these items are compatible".

I didn't see any black lug nuts on Amazon that said they come with washers. That's probably why they say not to be used with OEM wheels.

In case anyone was interested I found another option instead of painting or replacing the lug nuts. ColorLugs - Home

I bought the black ones with the extractor tool for $23. Much cheaper than buying black lug nuts. I've had them on for a few days and they seem to stay on very well. Shipping was quick too. I attached a picture with my painted black center caps too.

Joe, interesting product. How easy are they to remove? Wouldn't want to fight with them when it comes time to remove the wheel.

Also, do you plan on removing them each time the car goes in for service (tire rotation)?

Yea I don't know yet. lol. The extractors are just small tongs so it doesn't seem like it will be too difficult. The caps are soft but durable rubber so the friction with the metal lugs keeps them on snug. I do plan on removing them before my next service appt. Installation only took 5 minutes. I guess I'll give you another update in March when it's time for servicing.

Probably a lot easier to install (push on), than they are to remove, especially after they've been on for a while. Please do update us.

Ok so I am having my first service appointment today so I just removed the lug nut covers. It was really simple and quick. The little tongs pulled them out no problem. The covers have been on for over two months now without any issues either.

    Yes the 21mm LugCaps.

The boltcaps are too short and the sleeves are too long.
