my dear friends, i really love the innovations of the new prius. it is still king of the hill.BUT, unless this ooks better in person, i must say that, that for me,, it is just butt nice person ugly. looks kind of like a ford prob on steroids form the 1990s. please tell me its really much better looking than the pictures. now, im thinkiing of maybe a series 3 plug in for about $16-$18000 with pretty low mileage. im just not real happy with this new design.help me out.....

    Fred,

    Take the G3 and run.
The G3 Pip is a no great shakes as a PHEV, but even at 18K, it makes one helluva great commuter car, even with the smallish gas tank, and lack of a proper spare.
Even if the G4 weren't butt-ugly it's still an unproven car.

The G3 (Pip or hatch) is proven, reliable, and cheaper by far than the G4.
At the time of this posting, you can buy one new or used for less than 20 big ones.

That's just a tough combination to beat.

    Good Luck!

WOW--you took the words right out of my head! I have been waiting and waiting--and, from the pictures, I am truly disappointed with the design. I do concur that the innovations are awesome-- BUT really--

The 2010 to 2015 lines are really cool. It sold me on buying mine. Even when its sitting still, it looks like its moving.............but I'm bias. Many people ask me why I didn't get the corolla Hybrid............its all about the lines!!

I wouldn't call G4 butt ugly, but disappointing? To me it looks like it started as clean organic design and then management stepped in. Give edge give me more edge!

I couldn't agree more, though I think the front end is okay...a bit like a baby corolla, but that rear is just hideously ugly. It just appears they tried too hard to make it look futuristic or something. It's not a design that will age well in my opinion. I'm even happier with my Gen 3 now.

Yes, the G4's cheap and gaudy appearance is a punch in the gut.

I was at the LA Auto Show and told the rep I want to marry the new Prius.

It looks awesome in person. Not like the pictures show. You have to see it in person to appreciate it.

Yep. Ugly! It makes me want to take a closer look at the new Chevy Volt, which looks way better...

I really like the new design, but you're right about the management stepping in,that's exactly what happened and caused the delay !!!

Maybe but I can assure you that the next gen. Prius plug-in will blow it out of the water and even non Prius plug-in beats the Volt with ease on a long trip because it's outstanding fuel economy!

apparently Volt owners don't care about hybrid MPG just EV range. New Malibu is rated at 47, so if price compares favorably it will some Prius sales. You should get it too as an Opel offering at some point, and it is likely cost thousands less than import from Japan.

There was a time, a while back, when a young man owned a 2004 Prius. He was asked by Toyota to attend the 2010 Detroit Auto Show where the Gen3 Prius was unveiled. Of course he went. After the car was revealed, some Toyota reps made a little presentation to the group of enthusiasts in which an offer was made for those people to buy the new Prius at a reduced price.

Now, that young man had been really anticipating the trip. He wanted to see what his, presumably, next car would look like. He was excited. Until, that is, he sat in the car. There were many things that did not appeal to him. Many.

So that young man did what many young men would do: he didn't buy it.
He went on, for the next six years doing what many young men would do: keeping his personal feelings about the car to himself, staying off the pedestal of social media and forum boards, and congratulating every person who bought the car because they were excited about their purchasing decision even if they did not match his own. I'm willing to bet these sentiments hold true for almost every current Gen2 owner who took a pass on the Gen3.

The point of my story: I'm starting to grow pretty damned sick and tired of the haters. I've exchanged PMs with other Priuschatters who feel exactly the same way. We get it; you have opinions. Yeah. We know. Also, you're bored; you clearly do not have enough things in your life to keep you occupied. Can't help you there. Perhaps you would find a much more welcoming environment at 2016+ Toyota Prius General Discussion - Toyota Prius Forum : Prius Online Toyota Forums Go. Please.

Just now, I considered the wise sage advice of typing what I think and then deleting it. I've done this very thing on many, many occasions. Oh, you have no idea how many times I've lashed out at so many of you with verbiage that would most certainly get me reported. But I can't post those things; I'm a Moderator and I have scruples that keep me on the side of decency. Then I realized, however, since so many others have no personal filter and just blah blah blah with their opinions, then why should I be any different?

So keep posting and we'll keep disagreeing. The difference, of course, is that haters always end up looking like haters because that's what you do and the rest of us will stay on the quiet side of decency because that's what we do. The more you post, the more you hate, and the worse you look. You think we don't see it. You think that every day posting just how much you hate it in new and expressive ways makes you somehow original and clever. Perhaps, if you hate the Gen4 that much, it's time that you get the Hell out of the Gen4 forums and stay in the forum for a car you actually do like.

Couldn't agree more... I've never spent a second in a vehicle forum for a car I had no interest in, or had no intention of buying, let alone bashing the people who are here because they love it.

This seems quite familiar, much like what we went through in 2009... when gen-3 was first introduced. Gen-2 looked plain in comparison. Yet, there was a group who preferred it. After 6 years, there are some who look forward to a refresh introducing a more aggressive look.

Keep in mind, there are some who didn't think gen-3 was stylish enough. It became the face of hybrids, working itself into a self-deprecating stereotype. Breaking away from that to introduce a more capable system to a new audience will naturally disenfranchise some of the current.

Think about how radical the headlights of gen-3 looked like to that audience back then. Think about how "common" they've become since. Change is inevitable. How do you make a vehicle noticeable without losing its connection to the past? Something to compel new interest is needed.

LED lighting offers a great deal of opportunity, something many automakers will capitalize on... eventually. The fact that Toyota is so far ahead of the rest makes the vision questionable. Will people really stick with the more bland design? How many have praised futuristic concepts in the past that will dismiss them now that the distant future they imagined has arrived?

True, there will be some cosmetic aspects that don't catch on. But then again, there will be some that do. What would you prefer to drive? Gen-3 certainly drew a lot of interest.
