Wow. Autoblog claims there are no cupholders in the rear seat area (which is false. Walkaround video clearly shows two cupholders in rear center armrest.)

They also said it arrives here in mid January.

Looks like UK gets NiMH only. Also. The Prius is rated to tow! According to AutoCar,

Again, until I see a Toyota GB press release, I'll take that with a grain of salt.

    there is also:
    Acceleration 0 – 62mph 10.6 sec
    Acceleration c50 – 75mph (80 – 120 km/h) 8.3 sec
    Max. speed (mph) 120

This Danish review reveals the NEDC fuel economy being 33.3km/l or 3l/100km:

Toyota Prius - hybridbilen 4.0 | FDM (Use translate Danish->English)

The rear seat picture shows the cup holders in case you want to contact authors claiming the lack of cup holders.

Well they can not let VW have their Golf Bluemotion TDI at 3.2 l/100 km do they?

    Madness on NEDC continues:
    - Golf 3.2 l translates to 5.4 on spritmonitor (68% off)
    - Prius 3.0 l will probably translate to something like 4.7 on spritmonitor (57% off)

Looks like the 2016 Prius is being hit with a double whammy in terms of numbers.

    1. New HP rating calculation. This means all the other Toyota hybrids may see a change in hp ratings next year.

    2. Apparently there's some new testing for hybrids from the EPA but I can find anything on fueleconomy.gov.

    Yup!

There are also bottle holders in the rear doors that are new for this generation.

The Eco version is only $500 more. I think it is going to be popular with dealer markups. :(

I think they are being overly cautious with the system power output as Tesla just got hit and had to restate the power outputs for the P85D and P85D ludicrous. The output just got lowered with roughly 200HP for some markets (ratings only). It makes sense that Toyota is pro-active about these stats.

    great reviews!
2013 and newer already on 4.78, i would guess new model could go well, well below 4.5l from impressions in the us where it was easy to keep it well above 50mpg and a lot of those journos did 40's or less before.

Personally, I only use those as references, both my wifes Note and my own IS220d get 50% worse than what I can see on Spritmonitor. It does depend heavily on your drive routine.

I think overall speed is about the same, with city acceleration being significantly better even.

Not much of an improvement efficiency wise (has hybrids reached peak MPG?), and the looks are an acquired taste... Glad I bought the outgoing 2015 model, because the 2016s aren't worth forgoing the huge savings you can currently get with the old models.

Still, like where Toyota is taking the new Prius models, making them more enjoyable to drive and sporty and aggressive appearance (don't always like to feel like I'm driving an appliance on wheels...), and can't wait to see one on the road soon.

2015 is great car, so I dont feel bad for owners who got one.. but for me, 2016 is huge improvement in everything, and that includes MPG.

Wayne did his steady speed mpg and at 55mph, it is 10 MPG better than 2015 model. difference at those speeds is huge. Graphs also show how you should not rely on EPA ratings for real mpg, since 2016 Prius gets 20 MPG over C-MAX at 55mph, which is simply crazy.

The OP review was excellent, without obligatory unfair bashing that most reviewers seem to feel is needed to blast Prius. I think I heard the Toyota rep say definitely that PiP2 was coming.

30-lbs lighter on the Lithium batt is maybe at most +0.5 MPG due to weight, so I don't hear much "lithium is clearly superior to NiMH" talk from Toyota that some here say is now proven true.

I wonder how much it is due to weight savings though...just bought mine a few weeks ago and already want to remove the rear seats and spare tire. In any case 70+ MPG while driving 55mph is insane...find me a Semi-Truck to follow behind like a Remora attaching itself to a Shark, and all those long trips out of town that I like to take will barely be felt on the wallet.

there are no weight savings.. this is all due to much more efficient engine. Actual Prius G4 is heavier and weight matters less and less once you get up to the speed.

Hybrids are least efficient at steady highway speeds, at least that was rule of the thumb until this latest Prius came around. It actually beats Jetta TDI at these speeds, which was previously not possible.

So all those improvements to the engine and 40% thermal efficiency sure did pay off.
