After the EV miles have depleted, the ICE kicks on at 23-23.1% SOC. Does anyone know what SOC % it needs to reach for EV miles to start adding back on? I’ve never had the opportunity to drive on a downhill and was just wondering. Most I got on SOC in HV mode was 27-28% SOC and no EV miles were added.
that means you're at the max charge, which is around 80%? not sure. but with the pip, it's really just a portion of the total battery, so a very small portion. once you hit 8 bars, the next step will be the ev portion, but you'll need a pretty good downhill to regen that much. i've never done it in these flatlands.
23.5% is when EV mode ends and HV begins. To re-enter EV without plugging in, it will be at the estimated 0.7 mile mark. Not sure what that translates to for % of SOC, since I almost always just continue on in electric-only HV anyway. Going down enough hills, you'll be surprised how much EV you can rack up. I generally save a little bit prior to getting on the highway, since the ramp getting off is a great opportunity for adding more EV.
Sorry for the late response, I got busy. Thanks for your replies. I have never seen the ICE kick on at 23.5%, and I have looked at my scangauge many times when I get close to HV mode from depleted EV miles. It kicks on at 23.1% which is probably actually 23% since I tried a few times babying my EV miles at the end and I can stay in EV at 23.1%, then the ICE kicks in once I accelerate from that point.
My ScanGaugeII reports that the car enters HV mode when SOC is drops to 23.1%. EV mode becomes manually available again when it rises back to 28.2%, and EV mode is automatically re-engaged when SOC hits 32.9%.
This means that the 7th plus the 8th bars on the HV battery icon represent (together) about 5% (28-23) of battery rated capacity or ~220 Wh. This agrees with measurements I took (measuring charge to 'full battery' from full 8 bars and from full 6 bars at same temp).
