I took my car in to have the alarm system installed and now the ICE runs all the time, I cant get it into steath mode, my MPG dropped and the plastic cover is cracked. I'm pissed, this car olny has 400 miles on it. I'm taking it to another dealer. This sucks, I wish the dealers would use trained techs...

Make sure the new dealer will work on your car. They might not be too thrilled to work on a car that you claim another dealer screwed up. In a way, you're sort of pitting them against "one of their own."

Have you given the first dealer an opportunity to make it right? If not, then they will not only know that you are dissatisfied and they will not know to change their procedures.

Although mine was simply a botched oil change, I sent a letter to the head of the service department and the president of the dealership. I got a call a couple of days later with them offering to correct the problem (which they did).

they probably left the car on while they were working on it, and that let the battery charge get low. it's customary with all other vehicles, and they tend to forget that the battery is what makes us all hypermilers. your mpg will return to normal and you'll be able to get into stealth mode after a brief period of battery recovery. as trained as they are, they don't drive one every day and don't understand the little things prius drivers freak out about.

which plastic cover is cracked? they should be replacing that for you free of charge.

as far as taking it to another dealer... i don't think they'd consider that pitting them against one of their own. there is often fierce competition between local dealers and another place should be glad to win your business and take it away from the other folks.

good luck, sorry about the mishap you had. just to ensure it doesn't happen again, ask them to make sure they don't leave the car running so they can listen to the radio.

I agree that it is definitely worthwhile to talk to the Service Manager. I had a problem at my dealership where the last Service employee went home while I was still waiting for my car!!!

There I am, standing there with the cashier, and everyone is gone! We were at a loss as to what to do.

Long story short, I did end up relaying what happened to the Service Manager, and he apologized PROFUSELY. He also took care of my next scheduled service for me, and now they treat me like a queen when I bring my baby in there for service.

(I must have some sort of special flag on my name or something???)

Anyway, give them a chance to fix it. 9 times out of 10, they will... Otherwise, they get HELL from Toyota corporate.

sorry to hear about your experience. your location makes me a bit nervous. where was this done?? Toyota of Olympia has a great rep. they are not perfect, but their Prius mechanic is a very cool and dedicated guy who is a member here (ifixem). im sure that if you took it back to the dealer, they will treat you right.

When I have my Tech do the oil change, this never happens. And, if it does, I kick myself square in the a$$ and make sure I don't do it again.

I'm a big believer in the many upsides to not taking my vehicles to anyone for anything unless absolutly necessary.

The bigger gamble is on taking it in routinely hoping if something is teetering on the edge of broken, they will catch it before it snaps and save you a pile of money.

Well, rather, it costs a pile of money every time you go in, and then you end up dealing with this kind of issue about 1 in 3 times. Keep it home, do my own oil changes and odds are, I'll be past 100k miles before I have any parts start to fall off the car.

I've had it worse (here's a little teaser - he didn't even know about the manual release for the hatch!)

I suggest letters too. I sent one to the service manager and the president of the dealership and got results that way. I showed on each letter who was copied.
