Let's just agree to disagree. Tastes are meant to be personal. No use in repeating that everywhere on this forum. I am more interested in what Danny is doing right now...
I honor Chris Bangle for his immense influence on current car design and believe he makes two very good points. The target market and the influence of large diameter wheels. Thank you for posting.
in fact, mags always hated Prius and everything it stands for Merged. Bangle explains it well... also, Prius actually looks way, way better on videos than on static pics.
Pretty sure he was talking about "car mags" of which CR isn't one. CR is the classic jack of all trades master of none. Car guys don't like the Prius because, to them, cars are all about horsepower and inefficiency. The Prius is the antithesis of a good car to a reader of car and driver.
I think, I believe, I feel, my opinion is... This forum "mostly" consists of folks that have, had or are thinking about getting some version of a Prius...but it is not exclusive. Neither are one's reasons for liking these cars or not exclusive. Picking out a vehicle is no different than anything else and no one can say their choice is any better than another's choice...because it is a choice. Agree, disagree, agree to disagree or not, but no amount of beating on any drum is going to change this.
Well said, all of it. I'm mostly a lurker on here, have been for years, but I visit as I enjoy reading various people's opinions/feelings on a topic(s). Instead, this thread has been for the most part the same people, as you expressed, beating on drums. Repetitively.
They like Mazdas, which generally not about horsepower and is the most efficient manufacturer in US market.
The one thing I notice every time the car rotates around to rear corner view, is how bizarrely the car's beltline climbs.
It climbs to bend into the horizontal to form the rear spoiler. It's a unique way of incorporating the rear spoiler into the body. Someone here mentioned that the spoiler looked like an after-thought. I disagree. This one blends in quite well. The Gen 2 & 3 Prius' spoilers look like an after-thought because the body panel on either side is straight and in the vertical plane.
He's basically saying the car appeals to those that like games and want something any car guy would not. Not sure I'd go quite that far. But it does look a bit like it came out of a Japanese toy factory. and no size wheel or tire would change that.
yes chris. it may be designed for a younger audience but....they don't have any money and the mass buyer doesn't want that fugly design. the design just ..irks people. why would i want to buy a car that make me cringe every time i get into it? subaru made the mistake years ago listening to the "kids" and they couldn't break the 200,000 a year car barrier. once they made their cars more mainstream the sold double.
Not sure this is what he is saying. More like it is thought of to appeal to them. Funny thing that if you google "2016 Prius ugly" you get alot of hits. When you google "2016 Prius pretty" you get none. Actually you get some but word "pretty" is preceded by word "NOT"
greencarrports.com has several articles about the new Pri, along with pictures. I' sure they appear elsewhere too.
I got 142,000 Hits for "2016 Prius Ugly" and 18,500,000 for "2016 Prius Pretty" So it's definitely the Prettiest Prius Ever. No mention of the Ug here either... Toyota Prius News : Breaking News, Photos, & Videos - Green Car Reports
