I'm driving the 2016 Prius next week. What do you want to know?

Yes, the black is metallic. It's Attitude Black or Midnight Black (depending on what name they decide on). The current Camry is offered in the same colour if you want to check it out in person.

It's the silver part of the 17" rims (the triangles, as you call them). The actual rim is black with silver plastic bits to fill in the gap between the spokes.

It's smoother than the Gen 2. I have both. The only time you'll notice it on the Gen 3 is if you're braking really lightly past the 11km/h mark or if the discs are wet. Moderate brake pressure is enough to mask the transitiion.

I'll actually likely have a few hours in the car, with time split driving between myself and another press member.
Quick, someone link me the instructions to turn it off in the Gen 3.
Yeah, it was very disappointing. The steering wheel sat quite low even in the highest position. I rubbed my legs across it every time I got in and out of the car. I'll be sure to check it again next week.

There isn't a dance for the Gen 3. You have to take it to the dealer to get it configured.

I have a couple of questions:

    1) For the 75%+ of the population in the USA, can the 2016 Prius be remote started, and have the interior heated. :)

    2) Will we be stuck with the ugly white trim in the interior if we get the top of the line options?

    3) Will there be a plug-in 2016 Prius sold before the end of 2016?
3A) If so, can we still get all of the advanced options - such as HUD display, collision avoidance, advanced cruse control that will decelerate down to/close-to zero MPH.

    4) Has there been any mention of the warranty for the electric engine, gas engine, and the Li-ion batteries?
My understanding is that they are all new designs.
    How about extended warranty options?

    5) Maybe Tideland Prius may be able to answer this one:
Can a person custom order a 2016 Prius?
Note, I do not care if it takes 1 month or 12 months. Some of us are die-hard car-guys. Imho, if I'm spending $40K-$50K+ on a vehicle, then I want to be able to custom order it. :)

Fwiw, the 2016 Prius is on my very short list for my choice of my 2016 car. Currently, it's at the top by a good margin. But, until the full facts are known, it's a precarious position.

    Thanks In Advance!

Is the low-speed pedestrian alert sound (odd droning) still the same?

Any increase in paint surface reflectivity (lower orange-peel)?

Dash material/surface patterning. Do all parts have the same graining?

What brand/model tires are on the car?

Which exterior lighting elements appear to use LEDs?

    Thanks, looking forward your report.

If you have a choice, ask for the Edmunds reporter. The reason is they are curious and near as I can tell, technology neutral. They will appreciate your skills and understanding.

Uh, would you like to borrow a miniVCI and Mac with Windows XP? <GRINS>

I'd love to know the battery power output. The Gen.II's battery was rated at 25kW maximum power (34 horsepower). Gen.III's battery output was increased by 2kW to a maximum of 27kW (36 horsepower). I'd really love to know these values on both lithium, and Ni-MH cars.

Well I'm not in the U.S. so I guess it depends on whether you're in SET, GST or the rest of the U.S.. In Canada, you order the exact vehicle you want and they'll see if there's one coming down the line with your specifications (so it'll reduce the wait time). If not, then they'll put the order in and it'll take about a month for it to be built and shipped to the west coast. Add the time needed for transit if you're not living in a port city and add time for dealer prep (removing plastic covers, adding rubber plugs, installing certain items like wheel locks, cargo net and mudguards which are not installed until they're at the dealer if the vehicle comes with these types of options).

    From Las Vegas:

Taillights, brakelights, low & head beams, foglights (optional), "clearance lights" (optional. they're the 3 vertical bulbs below the foglights), licence plate lights.

From the Tokyo Press Release, the front forward-facing parking light is a boomerang-shaped LED light. (It's the silvery bit that sits above the headlights in the daytime photos)

When will we be able to configure and order a 2016 Prius? How many months will the 2016 Prius be available to order?

When will we be able to configure and order a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid? How many months will the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid be available to order?

Why did Toyota design the E-four AWD system for the Prius, but then decide not to offer it in the USA?

"The plastic bits can be pulled off, on the 17" rims".

That's great news! I wouldn't pull the inserts off and leave them off. I would hope to pull them off to paint them, then reinstall them painted in the color of my choice.

I am excited about this car!

If you are interested in color keyed wheel inserts as I am, maybe the "Bone China" parts of the interior can be color keyed as well. Probably for me, I would not want to paint them in place, but to dis-assemble and remove the white parts for paint, then reinstalling them afterward. If that can be done without damaging the parts, it would probably be a difficult and tedious chore. We shall see!

I would love to know how the car picks up going uphill. Let say you going uphill at 45-50 mph and need speed up to 60 mph. Would it struggle, feel sluggish?
How fast gas engine kicks in with brisk start?
What type of stereo unit it have. Can it read mp3 in multiple folders (folders within folder) or show the list withing one folder.
    Thank you in advance.

Is the gen4 more exciting, engaging and lively to drive than the gen3?

Does the gen 4 look more upscale to be in and feel more upscale to drive than the gen3? (similarly equipped on tires, navigation, etc ...

Can the gen4 get well over 40 MPG, or near 50 on a 1 to 2 mile trip from a cold start (if possible to test that)? I can only get 30 MPG or so going to the stores a mile or so away.

Definitely curious about how it handles. My Gen2 is reaching the point where I want to replace it and I want to know if the G4's handling makes up for losing the storage parts that I love so. I'm curious as to how the wireless recharging/iPhone music compatibility works, but anything would be better than the aux jack I have now.

So could a US citizen somehow order the Prius they want in Canada and then get it into the USA?

Pretty sure. Just like we buy new cars from the USA and imported it into Canada (and why I suggested that those who wanted a Gen 3 with SR and AT to buy a Canadian spec cause that's how my car is equipped). You need to check with your local state laws (and I guess federal laws too) regarding importing cars into the USA.

Just an example of what you may need to consider, I'll list some things a Canadian needs to consider when buying a new car from the USA

    1. Does it have DRLs?
      • If no, it needs to be installed before getting the provincial inspection done
      • If yes, it cannot be defeated from inside the car (no DRL OFF position on the headlight stalk
    2. Is it manufactured in Canada, U.S.A. or Mexico?
      • Yes? No import duty
      • No? Budget 6.1% of the purchase price for import duty
    3. Let customs know at the border you intend to cross ahead of time that you are going to be crossing with a vehicle with temporary plates for the purpose of importing the car. You'll pay GST and PST (if applicable) at the border.
    4. Is the warranty applicable if the vehicle is registered outside of the U.S.? (Most manufacturers will honour the warranty. The only one I can think of, off the top of my head, is Mercedes-Benz. MB Canada Inc. will not do warranty work on an imported car. You have to take it back to a U.S. dealer).
