I'm trying to add two tachometers to my 2012 Prius, one for each engine. I've been combing through diagrams and circuits and getting a headache. Can someone point me the where I might find that signal? Is it only available through the OBD-II connector? I'd test what Techstream can tell me, but I let someone borrow my cable. Any hints or answers would be very appreciated.
I suspect he means the ICE and MG1 (since MG2 is fixed to the vehicle speed). To my knowledge the only way to get these (without adding own tach sensors) is using the OBD2 port. But that has the added bonus that you can hook up a tablet of any size and use that as a dashboard.
and the second engine is...............? for the back-up generator like in the VOLT? I think you are in the wrong forum..
Please please please, call it the "engine", or we'll never get anywhere. There's only one RPM value available on the On Board Diagnostics port. You can read it with ScanGauge I know.
But my ScanGauge has three RPMs programmed in: ICE, MG1, and MG2. The first is built in, the later two are Prius-specific Xgauges taken from a spreadsheet somewhere on this site,
My Prius is so basic that it has only one engine. When you know the speed of the car and the speed of the engine, you can easily compute the speeds of both MG1 and MG2.
