I am in Canada and am visiting a car dealer for a test drive tomorrow. They have 2 Prii. 2009 with 86000 kilometers asking $12 990 CAD and 2010 with $106 000 kilometers asking $11 990 Which one would you prefer if conditon of both is very good. Any advice on negotiations. What price would one expect to be able to reach or hope to reach? SM-N910W8 ?
you also have to consider the options on both cars. A 2010 Prius 2 will not have a backup camera. I own both generations and I feel the older generation is much more enjoyable and more fun to drive.
JC91006 can you elaborate on why you feel the 2009 is more fun to drive? Also any advice on negotiating? SM-N910W8 ?
i like the '09, end of a great era. look online for prices like kbb, nada, carmax, offer at the low end and see what they come back with.
The 2009 (gen2) feels lighter, more roomy, less claustrophobic, zippier on local streets, and since it's older (at least mine are), I can freely park it anywhere without worrying about someone dinging my car or scratching it.
I drove then both. The 2010 seems a lot smoother. The 2009 seemed a bit jumpy. Not sure about it. The 2010 was sold to a couple that had a test drive right before me. SM-N910W8 ?
Now that you know which car you would prefer, there's plenty of these cars being sold. You will find another. The jumpy ride on the 2009 might need new shocks/struts. But the 2010 definitely "feels" like a heavier car......
Is it normal for the 09 to shudder a tiny bit for about 30 to 40 seconds when first started? SM-N910W8 ?
Not normal. If it happens regularly it may not be firing on all cylinders. If the car is powered down during the warm up cycle for the engine the next start could be rough.
Dealer charges $500 admin fee which includes 6 month 10 000km warranty .... I didnt know this until after we started talking. SM-N910W8 ?
If you can get your hands on a 2010 Touring I think you'll like it. Tighter steering*, 17" coverless alloys, LED headlights, fog lights**, stereo upgrade, XM tuner***. * better feel too, imo ** pretty ineffective, but look good *** really depends if you want, we dropped it
It was so odd. This particular prius was online for over 3 weeks and just the hour I show up for test drive another person is before me. At first I thought it was a pressure tactic. SM-N910W8 ?
So there was a 2010 Prius about a 4 hour drive from me with 62,341 miles which converts into 99,745km. They have it listed for $12 995. Carproof checked out and the dealer appears to be straight up. Was very accomodating sending me info etc. I put a contingent offer to him as I said it is too far to drive. I offered $11 300 Canadian. He accepted. Contingent on test drive and checking it with mechanic. So far I am very happy with dealing with him. Car comes with 30 day warranty but can purchase 1 year or up to 4 year. I drive 4 hours tomorrow and 4 hours back tomorrow. Hopefully all is good. SM-N910W8 ?
Sounds like a very far drive. You're almost obligated to buy the car after a drive like that.....I know I'll be talking myself into it just to justify the time/money spent.
In 2006 at Liberty Toyota another salesman was out on a test drive with a couple. When they returned my salesman & I went on a test drive. Back at the office while we were talking the other salesman came over & picked up the fob. Maybe I was the sales tactic that day. I didn't mind as I wasn't going to buy that car anyway. At Cherry Hill Toyota I got the impression I bought the 2006 out from under someone. In 2009 I just missed the silver V-AT on the lot but they put a hold on the silver V-AT coming from Maryland in a dealer trade.
