I know it means check engine, but does anyone have an idea what it's about? He has a 2009, not a lot of miles on it. Could it be that coolant pump issue from way back?
Check engine light is just about impossible to diagnose without reading the codes or noticing strange behavior. It can mean anything from a loose gas cap to your worst nightmare. As for coolant issue, if you mean the inverter coolant pump, you can check the reservoir for turbulence (skinny one with pink fluid in the middle of the engine bay). Remove the cap, turn on the car, and see if there are ripples.
Usually means the engine is very low on oil. No matter what when a Prius throws a DTC it's not kidding. Since its not a hybrid code any auto parts store can decode it with there OBDII reader.
Yes, the oil was fine, it turned out to be several things, I'll report back when I have a clearer understanding of it. Mendel, S/O does mean significant other in this case and he was in Wyoming visiting family.when the icon came up, just before he was supposed to drive home, naturally. Not spouse, but we're too old to go by boyfriend/girlfriend and have been together for 137 years, so S/O makes the most sense. Why the grumbling?
I am just brainstorming but sometimes it's a gaso cap issue if I am thinking the correct vehicle I own..and sometimes it resets itself.
