    Hi all!
I am new here and just made the transition from owning BMW's and Audi's within the last couple of years to the Prius.
I must say it is very nice not having to fill up as often as I did with a BMW.
I recently purchased a brand new 2015 dark grey Prius 2 on 10/24 for $20k.
Its definitely no 335 twin turbo but it is very smooth and extremely quiet and really loving this car.

Does it bother anyone else that the DRL's don't go on when the headlights are on as well? lol
It would make the car look way better in my opinion. Wish there was a way to change this other than going the OBD2/coding way.

    Cheers,

    Congrats on the new car.

The drl's are not focused so if they remained on while the headlights are on they would be bright as hell and blind others on the road during night use.

Yup. As mentioned, The DRLs are too bright.

I come from a well modified manual BMW 3 Series as well (still have it). Further tuned for high speed cornering =)

Check out my sig for stuff to do to your Prius.. if you are a tinkerer..

IMHO, the challenge of driving a Prius really well is as great as the challenge of driving a BMW (or alternative sports car) really well. A different kind of game, for sure, but equally difficult in its way.
    Cheers on your new Prius!

Did you discover why they call BMWs " Break my Wallets". Drive a Prius a few years and you can save up for another BMW.
Truthfully a BMW is a car I wanted for years, back in 1967, my two choices for a car were a BMW 1600 and a Corvette. At the time I thought $2790 was too much to pay for the BMW so a got the new Corvette for $3850. My how times have changed.

I might go from Toyota to BMW at some point, but I'm looking at the i3. No maintenance should make it affordable to own, especially since I would get it used.

This morning I drove home when it was still fairly dark out, and I ran with just my DRL. Another driver flashed his brights at me, so I'm assuming the DRL are too bright and not focused enough, causing glare for the other drivers.

I would not modify the DRL to come on with the headlights, or re-engineer them so they don't piss people off.

If I saw a Prius at night with its DRL oncoming, I would flash at them too. It won't be because they are too bright but rather to remind you to turn on your headlights.

It bothers me a lot that the DRL don't stay on with the headlight. There is no easy hack for it from my searches. Some rewire the power at the fuse box to the headlight switch but then you lose the DRL feature or it stays on forever if you find an always on wire. No elegant solution yet.

If you tap a fuse that is ignition On only, then the DRLs will only be on when in Ready mode, not forever.

Thank you for the warm welcome guys!

Just been reading around a bit on this forum and extremely informative. Just as informative as e90post (BMW forum)lol.

I bought the Prius as my daily driver so I will for sure be getting back into a BMW again soon as a weekend car. Maybe a 235i. I should have worded the title different lol. My love for BMW's is and will always be there.

As for the fog lights, thank you all for the input. I wish Toyota would have pointed them down so we can have them on while the headlights are on. oh well... Overall, I am very pleased and extremely fun to try and save as much gas as possible.

Nice headlight upgrade! Wish maybe OSS offered something for the Prius platform as they do for E90 angel eyes lol

Thats awesome! I will probably get a 235i or save up a bit more tho get an M2!
Need to see a photo of the M4!

M2 is cool. I'd realistically get a 228i though. we'll see =D (in the future)

Remember Drl's only light up the front, the rear of the car is dark, so running DRL's in the dark is not such a bright idea (pun intended).

Good point. I actually drove with the parking lights on which also activate the DRL My point is that I avoided running the headlights, although I'm not sure that helps much since I installed 35 watt HIDs.

With this cooler weather I'm not making my commute on EV alone. The gas engine has been kicking in with just a little under a mile left to go, and mostly downhill. It's a bummer because if I could make it up a very short uphill portion, the car can regenerate enough on the downhill to get me the last half mile.
